Ku Mingoli Bash Festival is a Malawian music festival that features 10 Malawian artists and four international headliners. [1] The 2024 bash will take place at Civo Stadium, Lilongwe, and will include South African artists such as Casper Nyovest and Young Stunna. [2] Tay Grin is also a headliner, [3] and the bash will also feature Temwa, a Malawian hip hop artist. [4] [5] [3]

History

Mingoli Bash Festival started in early 2022 by Shadreck Kalukusha, founder of Sound Addicts, as a way to promote tourism and improve the local economy. [6]

2023 edition

Ku Mingoli Bash 2023 took place in Lilongwe with foreign performances from South Africa's duo of Blaq Diamond and Daliwonga who warmed up the stage for night's headline artist from Zambia, Yo Maps. [7] [8] At first, the show was to take place at the Civo Stadium but was moved to Lilongwe Golf Club and then later to Grand Business Park. [9] The performances started at 1pm with events host Annie Matumbi who maned the stage. Notable local artists included Driemo who was also a marveled to watch with his fans asking for more as he was about to leave the stage. It was organised by Shadreck Kalukusha, a member of Sound Addicts Group. Other local artists who performed were Kell Kay, Eli Njuchi, Zeze Kingston, Gibo Pearson, Temwa, Black Missionaries Band and Tuno. [1]

2024 edition

Organizers unveiled plans for the new iteration of the event which is set for August 3, 2024 at Lilongwe's Civil Stadium. [3] Shadreck Kalukusha, the executive director of organizing partner, Sound Addict, confirmed the performances by South African rapper Casper Nyovest as well as vocalist Young Stunna who will headline musical showcase. Some of confirmed local artists are award-winning afro-pop singer Zeze Kingstone, Lulu, Pop Young, Sean Morgan, Kelly Divine, Tay Grin, Saint and Gibo Pearson. The festival will be sponsored by Tecno, a mobile provider with an intention to support Malawian musicians and at the same time expanding the company's reach. [3]

Limbani Kalilani is a Malawian Hip Hop artist better known by his stage name Tay Grin. In 2009 Tay Grin founded an Entertainment & Event Promotion company, which helps to promote events across Malawi. The company is known as Black Rhyno Entertainment. In 2014, Grin won a Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts (BEFFTA) award for Best International African Act. In 2016, he won the BEFFTA Star Award in the music category. He has performed at the annual Lake of Stars Music Festival. He also won the 2016 WatsUp TV Africa Music Video Awards Best Traditional Video award, with the Video Chipapapa featuring 2baba. He has also won numerous local awards like the Nyasa Music awards and the Urban Music People in categories such as best live act, best video and best Male artist. In 2018, he won the UMP Fashion awards for Most Fashionable Celebrity.

ZaniMichelle Chiumia is a Malawian artist, actress, model and former TV presenter. She gained international recognition in music when she collaborated with a Nigerian reggae-dancehall singer and songwriter, Patoranking, on a song called "Single Tonight" released in 2016.

Kelvin Khuzumba popularly known as Nesnes is a Malawian rnb artist and songwriter. He became popular after releasing songs such as Chidodo and It’s not fair in early 2010s which saw success in Malawi selling 60 copies in a single week. He featured Conel Chyoon and Lap T in the album which has songs like Chibwelele, Kadya Ubwelele, Sionse, Ndinjoye and Mundilanditse.

The Great Angels Choir is a CCAP gospel musical group from Lilongwe, Malawi. In 2016, the choir shared a stage with American singer, Don Moen. In 2023, it was rumoured that the choir was splitting to which it publicly denied. In September 2023, the choir collaborated with South Africa's Rebecca Malope in performance at the Blessings Gospel Concert at BICC in Lilongwe and other artists. In 2017, the choir hired Sipho Makhabane to spice their website.

Patience Namadingo is a Malawian gospel singer and songwriter. In 2010, he released his second studio album titled Tili ndi Yesu that included the hit “Mtendere”, which became the number one selling gospel album between 2010 and 2012 in Malawi.

Luna MC is a Malawian radio broadcaster, presenter and television personality. In 2019, Luna won the Personality of the Year along with Priscilla Kayira and Sharon Chirwa in UMP Media Awards. In 2018, Luna won best tv presenter of the year in Nyasa Music Awards.

Dan Lufani, best known as Dan Lu, and sometimes written as Dan Lufan, is a Malawian Afro-pop singer and songwriter. In 2011, he was awarded as best Afro pop artist of the year in Malawi Music Awards. In 2016, he was nominated in best R&B/Afro-pop Act along with other artists such as Theo Thomson and Kell Kay.

Aubrey Ghambi, best known as Suffix, is a Malawian gospel rapper and songwriter. In 2020, he won a UMP Award in best gospel act. In 2018, his album titled "Before I Sleep" won the category Album of the Year in UMP Awards and he was nominated as Best Hip Hop Artist as well as Best Urban Gospel. In 2016, was nominated for the same category and award.

Fredo Penjani Kamlepo Kalua, best known as Fredokiss, is a Malawian rapper and songwriter. In 2020, he was nominated in UMP Award in Best Hip Hop Act and his music video "Dadada" won Music Video of the Year. In 2017, he won three categories namely, Artist of the Year, Best rapper and Best Live Act.

Chiku Malinga Chitsundi Banda, best known as Malinga Mafia, is a Malawian dancehall artist and songwriter. In 2018, he won a Nyasa Music Award as Best Dancehall artist of the year. His collaboration with Hyphen titled Tsidya lina won the Best collaboration of the year 2018. In 2017, he won the Best Music Video in Nyasa Music Awards. In 2016, he was awarded a UMP Award for Album of the Year as well as Best Reggae/Dancehall Act in years 2017 and 2018.

Nyasa Music Awards are Malawian music awards that were established in early 2017 to celebrate entertainers and other minorities in music, fashion and philanthropy. The annual presentation event that takes place in major cities of the country features performances by artists and they are one of the major Malawi's music industry awards. Mzuzu Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Mzuzu, Malawi. The stadium is mostly for football matches, on club level by Moyale Barracks FC of the Super League of Malawi and other various sport activities. The stadium has a capacity of 10,000 spectators.

Zikomo Presidential Awards are Malawian awards established in 2021 by the president of Malawi, Lazarus Chakwera, to celebrate organisations, individuals and entertainers and other minorities in music, film, philanthropy and fashion. The 2023 awards ceremony took place in Lilongwe at Kamuzu Palace. During the ceremony, the president said that the awards were appropriate to honor some of the country's outstanding social enterprises as well as social entrepreneurs that provide solutions to some of the challenges the country faces.

Zeze Kingston is a Malawian Afropiano singer, songwriter and television personality. In 2023, he won Male Artist of the Year at the Maso Awards that took place at BICC in Lilongwe. He also won Best Live Act.
