LaGrange High School, located in LaGrange, Georgia, United States, is a public secondary school serving around 1300 students in the Troup County school system. Founded in 1903, the school is notable for producing several collegiate and professional athletes and was the national champion football team in 1991.

Contents

The town and high school derive their name from a connection to the French soldier and statesman, Marquis De Lafayette.

Mascot

The school's mascot is the Granger. [2] In France, it is common to use the term "la grange" to indicate a farm, as barns are a common feature. The French term "grange" (with an anglicized pronunciation) came also to be used colloquially as a name for a farm, and later a granger became a term for a farmer, with this use most commonly in the American North and Midwest. The school, however, has never officially used the term "Granger" to indicate or describe the mascot as a farmer.

Athletics

LaGrange High has produced professional athletes such as Mike Cameron, Dernell Stenson, Tony Stargell, Tyrone Poole, and Wesley Woodyard. Sports offered are tennis, football, cross-country, track and field, cheerleading, basketball, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming, volleyball, wrestling, and baseball.

The baseball team had one state championship in 2004. [3] [4]

LaGrange High School football

The LaGrange football team has had 65 years of winning seasons since 1919. They have won many championship titles - 19-time region champions, 11-time state champions, and 1-time winner of the USA Today National Championship in 1991. As of the 2011 season the Grangers have a win-loss record of 598–277-26. After the 1991 season, the Grangers received the title of the number one team in the nation as ranked by USA Today. Since 1919 there has yet to be a losing coach to come through this program, except for the current coach Dialleo Burks who has the worst record in school history as a head coach; his current record at the program is 12-29. LaGrange vs. Newnan

The rivalry between the Grangers and the Newnan High Cougars goes back to at least 1908. The Grangers lead the rivalry 49-30-4. In 2005 the Grangers were defeated by Newnan High School to end a 29-game win streak which is the longest in school history. Newnan has grasped three meetings in a row up through the 2009 season. In 2004 the Grangers opened up with the old-time rivals for the first time since 1999. The preseason ranked #1 in 3A Grangers defeated the 5A preseason ranked #2 Cougars 35-7, to start off their undefeated state championship season in 2004. "The ‘04 LaGrange team ranked in the Top-25 of five national polls at season’s end and as high as No. 9 in one poll with one of the finest teams in school history." [6]

William Lamont Strothers is a retired American professional basketball player. Born in Nansemond County, Virginia Strothers played college basketball for Christopher Newport. He was selected in the 1991 NBA draft and had short stints in the NBA with the Portland Trail Blazers and the Dallas Mavericks. He played in CBA, but he spent most of his professional career overseas. After retiring from professional basketball, he took coaching positions in high school basketball teams.

Northgate High School (NGHS) is a public high school located in northeastern Coweta County near Newnan, Georgia, United States. Founded in 1996, Northgate is the newest of the three Coweta County School System high schools.

North Clayton High School is a four-year public high school located in College Park, Georgia, United States. It is part of the Clayton County Public Schools. The school was created in 1937 as Flat Rock School, serving 44 students in grades 8–10 with eight teachers. Grades 11 and 12 were added the following year, and the school was given its current name.

Charles Henderson High School is a grades 9-12 high school located in the city of Troy, Alabama. The namesake of the school, Charles Henderson, was the governor of the state of Alabama from 1915 to 1919. After his death in 1937, Henderson left some of his considerable estate to family members, but most of his money was used to establish a perpetual trust to fund education and healthcare in Troy. The fund was to be used for the construction of new schools and to start a charity hospital for children in Troy. Money from Henderson's trust has been used to fund Charles Henderson High School, Charles Henderson Middle School, and The Charles Henderson Child Health Care Center.

Dialleo Burks Sr. is an American football coach and former arena football wide receiver and linebacker. He is the head football coach for Warner University, a position he has held since 2022. He played college football at Eastern Kentucky.

The Georgia–Alabama League was a minor league baseball league that operated in its two namesake states. The circuit first operated from 1913 to 1917, was revived from 1928 to 1930, then returned to operation for a final time from 1946 through 1951. The league's existence thus spanned some 39 years, but it only fielded teams in 14 seasons. All versions of the Georgia–Alabama League were Class D leagues, the lowest classification in Organized Ball during their years of operation.

From 1946 to 1950, the Brownies played as members of the Class D level Georgia–Alabama League, winning the 1949 league pennant and qualifying for the playoffs in all five seasons of play. The Brownies were preceded in Georgia–Alabama League play by the 1913 to 1916 Newnan Cowetas.

The LaGrange Grangers were a minor league baseball team based in LaGrange, Georgia. From 1913 to 1917, the Grangers and their predecessor, the LaGrange "Terrapins," played exclusively as members of the Class D level Georgia–Alabama League.
