McNeese State University is a public university in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Founded in 1939 as Lake Charles Junior College, it was renamed McNeese Junior College after John McNeese, an early local educator. The present name was adopted in 1970. McNeese is part of the University of Louisiana System and is classified as a Master's University. The selective admissions university consists of six colleges and the Doré School of Graduate Studies. McNeese is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and all programs of study are accredited by their respective national boards.

William Stanley Humphries is an American high school basketball coach and amateur golfer. He was previously a professional football player who was a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) for the Washington Redskins and San Diego Chargers. He played high school football at Southwood High School and college football at Northeast Louisiana. He was selected by the Redskins in the sixth round of the 1988 NFL Draft.

He has also played for the Miami Dolphins and the New Orleans Saints. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 1995 NFL Draft. Wilson played college football at Southern University. He graduated from LaGrange Senior High in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Donald Carl Breaux is a former American football player and coach. He played college football at McNeese State College and in the American Football League (AFL). He served two stints as an assistant coach under head coach Joe Gibbs with the Washington Redskins of the National Football League (NFL).

Charles Richard Allen was an American professional football linebacker who played in the American Football League (AFL) with the San Diego Chargers, and later the National Football League (NFL) with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles. He played in four AFL Championship games, and was a member of the Chargers' 1963 AFL Championship team. Allen was an All-AFL player in 1962, and an AFL All-Star in 1963 and 1964. He played college football at Washington.
