Jānis Daliņš was a Latvian race walker. Competing in the 50 km event he won a silver medal at the 1932 Olympics, becoming the first athlete to win an Olympic medal competing for Latvia. He also won the 1934 European title and set seven world records in the 1930s. At the 1936 Olympics he led the race at 30 km, but abandoned the race due to a leg injury.

Elvīra Anatoļjevna Ozoliņa is a retired Soviet javelin thrower. In 1960 she won gold medal with an Olympic Record of 55.98 m and was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour. Between 1960 and 1963 she set three world records. In 1964 she became the first woman to surpass 60 m, but this result was not ratified as a world record by IAAF. In the 1964 Olympic final she fouled her last four attempts and finished in a disappointing fifth place. Domestically she won the national title in 1959, 1961–62, 1964, 1966, and 1973.

He also won the 1986 World Championship in 25 m Standard Pistol. Kuzmins trained at the Armed Forces sports society in Riga.

Men's floor was one of eight events for male competitors in artistic gymnastics at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. The qualification round took place on September 17, with 76 gymnasts taking part. The eight highest scoring gymnasts competed in the final on September 24 at the Sydney SuperDome. The event was won by Igors Vihrovs, becoming the first Olympic gold medalist for independent Latvia.

Jānis Dimza was a Latvian decathlete. He placed fourth at the European Championships in 1934, and challenged for medals at the Olympic Games in 1932 until he injured himself in the pole vault.

Kārlis Kļava was a Latvian military officer and sports shooter. He placed 23rd in the 25 m rapid fire pistol event at the 1936 Summer Olympics. Next year he won that event at the 1937 World Championships, becoming the first Latvian athlete to win a world title, and was selected as Latvian Sportspersonality of the year.
