Laura Ives Wiley is a former member of the High Point,North Carolina city council,a former member of the North Carolina House of Representatives,and a former member of the University of North Carolina Board of Governors. A Republican,she represented the state's 61st legislative district,which at the time encompassed southwestern Guilford County,a majority of the city of High Point,the town of Jamestown,and the unincorporated area of Sedgefield. [1] She was first elected to the North Carolina General Assembly in 2004 after defeating eight-term Republican incumbent Steve Wood in a primary election. [2] Wiley won an uncontested race in 2006, [3] and defeated primary challenger George Ragsdale in 2008. [4] She chose not to run for re-election in 2010 and is now retired from elected public office. She remained active in political and community activities,having served on the War Memorial Foundation Board of Directors,the High Point Housing Authority Board of Commissioners,and the Senior Resources of Guilford Board of Directors. In March 2013 she was appointed by the North Carolina House of Representatives to serve a four-year term on the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina system. In September 2016,she was named to The Order of the Long Leaf Pine,which is among the most prestigious awards presented by the Governor of North Carolina. Wiley had previously served on the High Point City Council since 2002,and before that was an active volunteer for both the High Point and Guilford County Republican Parties. [7] She previously served on the North Carolina Republican Party's Executive Committee and on the North Carolina 6th U.S. Congressional District Committee. [8] She is a retired educator who worked in Ohio and Tennessee schools prior to moving to North Carolina in 1997. [9] Born in Twenty-Nine Palms,CA,she is the daughter of a career United States Marine Corps officer. She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a B.S. in Education. [10] She is married to Bruce C. Wiley,a retired business executive,and together they resided in High Point. They have two adult children,Adam &Andrew.

Alma Shealey Adams is an American politician who represents North Carolina's 12th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives. A Democrat,Adams represented the state's 58th House district in Guilford County in the North Carolina General Assembly from her appointment in April 1994 until her election to Congress,succeeded by Ralph C. Johnson. A college administrator and art professor from Greensboro,Adams is known for her many distinctive hats. She won the 2014 special election in North Carolina's 12th congressional district to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mel Watt,becoming the 100th woman serving in the 113th Congress. She won election to a full two-year term at the same time.
Stephen Wray Wood is an American politician who served as a Republican member of the North Carolina General Assembly representing the state's sixty-first House district,including constituents in Guilford county. Wood served eight terms in the State House from 1984–2005.
Charles W. "Charlie" Albertson is an American politician and musician. A Democratic politician from North Carolina,he was a member of the North Carolina Senate,representing the 5th and 10th districts from 1993 until his retirement in 2010. His district included constituents in Duplin,Harnett and Sampson counties. Albertson also served as the Democratic Caucus Secretary from 2005 until 2010. Market Square is a furniture showroom complex in High Point,North Carolina,owned by International Market Centers which is the largest building in North Carolina on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP),and the sixth largest in the United States. Known also as Tomlinson Chair Manufacturing Company Complex,it was listed on the NRHP under that name. The former manufacturing complex includes the oldest factory building in the city,and its renovation has been credited with making High Point a successful furniture exhibition center. A 16-story addition in 1990 is one of the city's tallest buildings.
