Lauren Howe (born July 7, 1993) is a Canadian actress, tv host, model and beauty pageant titleholder. She won the title of Miss Universe Canada 2017 and placed in the top 10 at the Miss Universe 2017. She has also worked in the television industry, appearing on various programs and acting in several productions. [1]

Lauren is currently a correspondent for Citytv in Toronto, Ontario, predominantly for CityLine and Breakfast Television. She co-hosted the Canadian Broadcast Coverage of the 61st Annual Grammy Awards with Tracy Moore and Devo Brown.

Early life

Born in Toronto, Canada, Lauren is of French, German and Ukrainian heritage. She was raised as an only child by a single mother, [2] and later studied industrial engineering at the University of Toronto. While in college, she was named one of the "Top Ten Female Students to Watch". [3]

Career

Pageantry

After joining the Miss Teen Canada pageant in 2011 for scholarship opportunities, Lauren went on to compete at Miss Teen World, placing in the top 5. She used her platform to support women pursuing education and careers in STEM fields. She later ran for Miss Universe Canada in 2014, where she finished as the 2nd runner-up to Chanel Beckenlehner.

Howe was crowned Miss Universe Canada 2017 on October 7, 2017 by Siera Bearchell and placed in the Top 10 at the Miss Universe 2017 pageant in Las Vegas in November. [4]

Hosting and television

While in university, she worked as the In-Arena Host for the Toronto Maple Leafs [5] from 2014 to 2016. Howe has hosted other live events including the IIHF World U20 Championship, 2015 Pan American Games, Invictus Games and Rogers Cup.

In 2016, she became a correspondent for Citytv, co-hosting the Canadian National Broadcast of the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. [6] She regularly appears on Breakfast Television, CityLine and has guest hosted Breakfast Television. [7]

She is a model with Sutherland Models [8] and an actress with Butler Ruston Bell. [9]

Personal life

In September 2023, Howe announced her engagement to Brayden Irwin.

Miss USA is an American beauty pageant that has been held annually since 1952 to select the entrant from United States in the Miss Universe pageant. Breakfast Television is a Canadian morning television program that is broadcast on Citytv. As of 2023, BT only broadcast from Toronto as a four-hour morning show, while a national edition aired in 8:30-10 a.m. local time on all Citytv stations. Versions were formerly broadcast in Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Montreal, but have been canceled and replaced with alternative programming. Tim & Friends is a sports talk show hosted by Tim Micallef that was produced by the Canadian sports television network Sportsnet where it aired. The program, originally known as Tim & Sid and hosted by Micallef and Sid Seixeiro, was established in 2011 as an afternoon radio show on CJCL. The program gained a television simulcast on The Score in 2013. On July 1, 2015, the program was re-launched on Sportsnet as a dedicated television program. She represented Canada in the Miss Universe 2016 competition in Manila, where she placed in the top nine. While competing in Miss Universe, Bearchell received media attention for her curvier figure, which was seen as a detraction from the typical body standards associated with beauty pageants, and for her response to immense body shaming from Internet trolls.

Miss Universe Canada 2017, the 15th Miss Universe Canada pageant, was held on October 7, 2017 at John Bassett Theatre, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Toronto, Ontario. Siera Bearchell of Saskatchewan Province crowned Lauren Howe of Ontario Province at the end of the event. Lauren represented Canada in the Miss Universe 2017 pageant on November 26, 2017, placing in the top 10.

Miss Teen USA 2018, the 36th Miss Teen USA pageant, was held on May 18, 2018, at Hirsch Memorial Coliseum in Shreveport, Louisiana. Sophia Dominguez-Heithoff of Missouri crowned Hailey Colborn of Kansas as her successor at the end of the event. She is the second entrant from Kansas to win the title after Keylee Sue Sanders won Miss Teen USA 1995.

Marta Magdalena Stępień is a Polish-Canadian model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss International Canada 2017 and Miss Universe Canada 2018, representing Canada in Miss International 2017 pageant in Tokyo, Japan, ending up being unplaced, but she also represented Canada at the Miss Universe 2018 pageant, finishing as a Top 10 finalist.

Gabriela Clesca Vallejo is a Haitian-Canadian model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Haiti 2019. She represented Haiti at Miss Universe 2019.

On April 19, 2011, after ESPN, Turner Sports, and Fox Sports placed bids, NBC Sports announced it had reached a ten-year extension to its U.S. television contract with the NHL worth nearly $2 billion over the tenure of the contract. The contract would cover games on both NBC and sister cable channel Versus, which became part of the NBC Sports family as the result of Versus parent Comcast's controlling purchase of NBC Universal earlier in 2011.
