Lauren Nourse (born 10 August 1982) is a former Australia netball international. Between 2007 and 2011 she made 25 senior appearances for Australia. Nourse was a member of the Australia teams that won the gold medal at the 2007 World Netball Championships and the silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Between 2004 and 2012, Nourse played for Queensland Firebirds. In 2011 she captained Firebirds when they won the 2011 ANZ Championship.

Early life and education

Nourse is originally from South Australia. She was born in Loxton and grew up in Port Lincoln where she attended St Joseph's School and played netball for Saint Mary's. [2] [4] She later attended Immanuel College, Adelaide. [5] [6]

Playing career

South Australia

Between 1998 and 2003, Nourse represented South Australia in the Australian National Netball Championships at under-17, under-19, under-21 and Open levels. [3]

Contax

Nourse also played for Contax in the South Australia state league. [7] [8] In 2002, together with Natalie von Bertouch, Carla Dziwoki and Kirby Mutton, she was a member of the Contax team that won the state league title. [9]

AIS Canberra Darters

In 2003, Nourse played for AIS Canberra Darters in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy league under coach Norma Plummer. [10] [11]

Queensland Firebirds

Between 2004 and 2012, Nourse played for Queensland Firebirds, initially in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy league and later in the ANZ Championship. [1] [2] [12] [13] [14] Between 2010 and 2012, she served as Firebirds' team captain. In 2011 she captained Firebirds when they won the 2011 ANZ Championship. She captained Firebirds to ten successive wins, helping them secure the minor premiership and a place in the play-offs. However on 10 April, in a Round 9 match against Central Pulse, Nourse suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury which ended her season. After making a comeback during the 2012 season, she announced her retirement in October 2012. [3] [15] [16] [17] [18] [19]

Australia

Between 2007 and 2011, Nourse made 25 senior appearances for Australia. She previously represented Australia at under-21 level. She made her senior debut for Australia on 21 July 2007 against New Zealand. Nourse was called into the senior team as an injury replacement for Mo'onia Gerrard after impressing national selectors during an unofficial practice match against England. She became the first Queensland Firebirds player since Vicki Wilson to represent Australia. Coincidentally, in 2007 Wilson was Nourse's head coach at Firebirds. Nourse was subsequently a member of the Australia teams that won the gold medal at the 2007 World Netball Championships and the silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. [3] [12] [15] [20] She was expected to represent Australia at the 2011 World Netball Championships, however she was ruled out after suffering an ACL injury while playing for Firebirds. [18]

Teaching career

Nourse works as teacher and netball coach. Since 2014, she has served as a director of netball at Matthew Flinders Anglican College. [27] [28] In 2016 and 2017 she guided the netball team to two successive Vicki Wilson Cup wins. The Vicki Wilson Cup is Netball Queensland's top level school competition. [29] [30] [31] She previously worked as a teacher at St Peters Lutheran College. [32]

Between 2008 and 2016, they played in the ANZ Championship and between 1997 and 2007, they played in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy. Natalie von BertouchBUR-toh;, also known as Natalie Bode, is a former Australia netball international. Between 2004 and 2012 she made 76 senior appearances for Australia. Bertouch was a member of the Australia teams that won the gold medals at the 2007 and 2011 World Netball Championships. She captained Australia at the latter tournament. She was also a member of the Australia teams that won the silver medals at the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games. At club level, Bertouch captained Adelaide Thunderbirds to two ANZ Championship titles in 2010 and 2013. Her older sister Laura von Bertouch is also a former netball player. The two sisters were team mates with both Thunderbirds and Australia.

The ANZ Championship, also known as the Trans-Tasman Netball League, is a former netball league featuring teams from both Australia and New Zealand. Between 2008 and 2016, it was the top-level league in both countries. The competition was owned and administered by Trans-Tasman Netball League Ltd (TTNL), a joint venture between Netball Australia and Netball New Zealand. It was effectively a merger of Australia's Commonwealth Bank Trophy and New Zealand's National Bank Cup. Its main sponsor was the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group.

Rebecca Bulley, also known as Rebecca Strachan, is a former Australia netball international and current netball coach. Between 2008 and 2015 she made 42 senior appearances for Australia. Bulley was a member of the Australia teams that won the gold medal at the 2015 Netball World Cup and the silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Bulley also won three ANZ Championship titles with three different teams – the 2008 New South Wales Swifts, the 2013 Adelaide Thunderbirds and the 2015 Queensland Firebirds. She began her senior club career with Melbourne Kestrels during the Commonwealth Bank Trophy era and finished it playing for Giants Netball in Suncorp Super Netball.

Katie Walker is a former Australian netball player and current netball coach. Walker played for both Hunter Jaegers and Queensland Firebirds during the Commonwealth Bank Trophy era. She also played for Firebirds during the 2008 ANZ Championship season. Since 2020, Walker has been a member of the Firebirds coaching staff, serving as an assistant coach, specialist coach and head coach of Queensland Sapphires.

Kirby Mutton, also known as Kirby Morley, is a former Australian netball player. Mutton played for both AIS Canberra Darters and Adelaide Thunderbirds during the Commonwealth Bank Trophy era. Mutton also played for Contax in the South Australia state league and was a member of five premiership winning teams. Between 2003 and 2005, she represented Australia at under-21 level.

Clare McMeniman, also known as Clare Ferguson, is a former Australia netball international player. She captained Australia when they won the 2016 Netball Quad Series and the 2016 Constellation Cup. Amorette Wild, also known as Amy Wild, is a former Australian netball player. Wild played for both New South Wales Swifts and Queensland Firebirds during the ANZ Championship era. She was a member of the Firebirds team that won the 2015 ANZ Championship. She also represented Australia at under-19, under-21 and Fast5 levels.

In the major semi-final, Firebirds defeated Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic and in the grand final they defeated Northern Mystics, winning their first premiership. However they subsequently won just seven games and finished sixth during the regular season, failing to qualify for the play-offs. In October 2012, after three seasons as Firebirds' captain, Lauren Nourse announced her retirement.

Kimberley Ravaillion, is an Australia netball international. Ravaillion was a member of the Australia teams that won the gold medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2015 Netball World Cup and the silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. In January 2013, aged 19, she made her senior debut for Australia during an away series against England. This saw Ravaillion make her senior test debut before making her top-level league debut. Her first game for Queensland Firebirds came two months later. She was subsequently a member of the Firebirds teams that won the 2015 and 2016 ANZ Championships. Between 2017 and 2019 she played for Collingwood Magpies in Suncorp Super Netball. After missing the 2020 season due to pregnancy, Ravaillion rejoined Queensland Firebirds for the 2021 season.

Beryl Friday is an Australian netball player. Friday was a member of the Queensland Firebirds teams that won the 2015 and 2016 ANZ Championships. She has also played for Queensland Fusion, Territory Storm and Canberra Giants in the Australian Netball League, Team Bath in the Netball Superleague and West Coast Fever in Suncorp Super Netball.

Roselee Jencke is a former Australia netball international and netball coach. As a player, Jencke was a member of the Australia teams that won the gold medal at the 1991 World Netball Championships and the silver medals at the 1985 World Games and the 1987 World Netball Championships. In 1992 she was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia. Between 2009 and 2020, Jencke served as head coach of Queensland Firebirds. Between 2011 and 2016 she guided Firebirds to five ANZ Championship grand finals, winning three premierships in 2011, 2015 and 2016.

The 2013 Queensland Firebirds season saw Queensland Firebirds compete in the 2013 ANZ Championship. During the regular season Firebirds finished fourth, qualifying for the playoffs. In the minor semi-final they defeated Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic 53–50 and in the preliminary final they defeated Melbourne Vixens 50–46. They were then defeated in the grand final by Adelaide Thunderbirds.

The 2016 Queensland Firebirds season saw the Queensland Firebirds netball team compete in the 2016 ANZ Championship. With a team coached by Roselee Jencke, captained by Laura Geitz and featuring Romelda Aiken, Clare McMeniman and Kim Ravaillion, Firebirds won the Australian Conference, the Challenge Trophy and the overall championship. Firebirds became the first and only team to retain the title. In a repeat of 2015, Firebirds defeated New South Wales Swifts in both the Australian Conference Final and the Grand Final.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Hulita Veve</span> Australian netball player

Hulita Veve, previously known as Hulita Haukinima, is a Tongan netball player. Haukinima was a member of the Queensland Firebirds team that won the 2016 ANZ Championship. She has also played for Queensland Fusion in the Australian Netball League and for Firebirds in Suncorp Super Netball. In 2014 she was captain of the Queensland under-19 team that won their Australian National Netball Championships tournament. In 2019 she captained the QUT Wildcats team that won the inaugural HART Sapphire Series title.
