Legends of the Summer is the fifth extended play by American rapper Meek Mill. The EP was released on July 6, 2018, by Maybach Music Group and Atlantic Records. [1] It is the follow-up to Meek Mill's third album Wins & Losses (2017), and his first project since his release from prison in April 2018. [2] It includes guest appearances from Miguel, Swizz Beatz, PnB Rock and Jeremih. [3] The production handled by Hitmaka, Jahlil Beats, Mike DZL and Prince Chrishan, among others. [4]

Legends of the Summer generally received mixed to positive reviews from music critics. Mosi Reeves of Rolling Stone wrote "Over a breezy 13 minutes, Meek Mill fills his listeners with hope that, yes, it is possible to survive and thrive in a country seemingly determined to deliver rough extrajudicial justice to people of color." [11]

Scott from The Scott & Andre Show said "I thought it was pretty bad, I didn't enjoy listening to it...it was bland, it was unremarkable", and in a slightly more positive review, Andre said "I'm just gonna say it was mediocre. I agree...it was not very remarkable at all, but I thought the saving grace for it was the production". [12]

Commercial performance

Legends of the Summer debuted at number nine on the Billboard 200, earning 26,000 album-equivalent units, with 6,000 coming from pure album sales. [13] It serves as Meek Mill's fifth top-ten album in the United States. [13]

In 2008, Atlanta-based rapper T.I. signed Meek Mill to his first record deal. In February 2011, after leaving Grand Hustle Records, Mill signed with Miami-based rapper Rick Ross's Maybach Music Group (MMG). It was initially scheduled for release on September 9, 2014, however, it has been delayed few times due to Meek Mill's revoking of his probation on July 11, 2014, thus sentencing him to jail for 3 to 6 months. The album made its entry at number one on the US Billboard 200; and sold 246,000 album-equivalent units in its first week, with 215,000 coming from traditional album sales, marking as Meek's first number-one album on the chart. Due to the change in the tracking week by Nielsen Music SoundScan, its first week sales were counted towards its second week on the charts. At the 2016's Billboard Music Awards, the album won an award for Top Rap Album.

The album features guest appearances from Fabolous, Anuel AA, Cardi B, Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Future, Roddy Ricch, Young Thug, Drake, Kodak Black, Ella Mai, 21 Savage, Melii, Jeremih, and PnB Rock. Meanwhile, production was handled by Bangladesh, Cardo, Cubeatz, C-Sick, Don Cannon, Hit-Boy, Hitmaka, Prince Chrishan, Tay Keith, and Wheezy, among others.
