Djibouti took part in the 2000 Summer Olympics, which were held in Sydney, Australia from 15 September to 1 October. The country's participation at Sydney marked its fifth appearance in the Summer Olympics since its debut at the 1984 Summer Games in Los Angeles, United States. The delegation included two track and field athletes; Omar Daher Gadid in the men's marathon and Roda Ali Wais in the women's 800 metres. Gadid failed to finish the marathon, while Wais did not progress past the first round of her event.
Equatorial Guinea competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, United States, which were held from 28 July to 12 August. This was the first time the country took part in a Summer Olympics. The delegation consisted of four athletics competitors: sprinters Gustavo Envela and Secundino Borabota, and middle-distance runners Bartolomé Esono Asumu and Diosdado Lozano. All four failed to advance beyond the initial heats in their respective competitions. The best performance came from Envela who placed fifth in the eighth heat of the men's 100 metres.
The Maldives competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, United States, from 19 July to 4 August 1996. The delegation's participation in the Atlanta Olympics marked the Maldives' third appearance at the Summer Olympics since their debut at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. Six athletes competed across two sports; Mohamed Amir, Naseer Ismail, Hussain Riyaz, Ahmed Shageef and Yaznee Nasheeda in track and field, and Moosa Nazim in swimming. None of the track or swimming athletes advanced past the first round in their events, and no Maldivian has won a medal in any events. Ahmed Shageef bore the Maldives' flag during the parade of nations of the opening ceremony.
Equatorial Guinea competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, which was held from 8 to 24 August 2008. The country's participation at London marked its seventh appearance in the Summer Olympics since its début at the 1984 Summer Olympics. The delegation included the sprinter Reginaldo Ndong, middle-distance runner Emilia Mikue Ondo and half-middleweight judoka José Mba Nchama. Ndong and Mikue Ondo qualified for the Games through wildcard places and Mba Nchama entered through his ranking at the 2007 African Judo Championships. Mikue Ondo was chosen as the flag bearer for both the opening and closing ceremonies. Ndong and Mikue Ondo progressed no farther than the first round of their respective events and Mba Nchama was eliminated from contention in the second round of the contest.
Aldwyn Sappleton is a Jamaican track and field athlete, who specialized in middle distance running. He won three medals, including gold in the 1500 metres, at the 1999 CARIFTA Games in Fort-de-France, Martinique. He is also a four-time All-American track and field athlete, while playing for the Oklahoma Sooners, at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.
Abdul Rashid is a Pakistani sprint hurdler. Rashid represented Pakistan at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he competed for the men's 110 m hurdles. He ran in the third heat against seven other athletes, including Ronald Forbes of the Cayman Islands and three-time Olympian Dudley Dorival of Haiti. He finished the race only in last place by nearly two seconds behind Dorival, with a time of 14:52, twenty-eight hundredths of a second slower than his personal best of 14:24. Rashid, however, failed to advance into the quarterfinal round, as he placed fortieth overall, based on his time and performance in the preliminary heats. Ivano Bucci is a Sammarinese sprinter, who specialized in the 400 metres. Bucci qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, by shattering both his personal best and a national record of 48.07 seconds at the 2007 IAAF World Championships in Osaka, Japan.
Sergey Pakura is a Kyrgyzstani middle-distance runner. Pakura represented Kyrgyzstan at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he competed for the men's 800 metres. He ran in the seventh heat, against six other athletes including American middle-distance runner Andrew Wheating, and Robert Lathouwers of the Netherlands. He finished the race in last place by two seconds behind Jamaica's Aldwyn Sappleton, with a time of 1:50.54. Pakura, however, failed to advance into the semi-finals, as he placed fifty-second overall, and was ranked farther below two mandatory slots for the next round.
Myhaylo Mykolayovych Knysh is a Ukrainian sprinter, who specialized in the 400 metres. Knysh made his official debut for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where he placed sixth for the national sprint team in the preliminary heats of men's 4 × 400 m relay, with a time of 3:04.01.

Emilia Mikue Ondo is an Equatoguinean middle distance runner. She set a personal best time of 2:15.72 for the 800 metres at the 2007 IAAF World Championships in Osaka, Japan. She is also a two-time flag bearer for Equatorial Guinea at the Olympic opening ceremonies.
Mikko Antti Juhani Lahtio is a Finnish middle-distance runner, who specialized in the 800 metres. Lahtio represented Finland at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he competed for the men's 800 metres. He ran in the eighth heat against seven other competitors, including Cuba's Yeimer López and Algeria's Nabil Madi, who both reached into the final round. He finished the race in last place by thirty-two hundredths of a second behind Morocco's Yassine Bensghir, with a time of 1:47.20. Lahtio, however, failed to advance into the semi-finals, as he placed twenty-seventh overall and was ranked farther below two mandatory slots for the next round.
Sergio Andrés Ferreyra is an Argentine former swimmer, who specialized in breaststroke events. He is a multiple-time Argentine record holder, and a two-time medalist in the breaststroke at the 2006 South American Games in Buenos Aires. He is also a member of Club Regatas Corrientes, and is coached and trained by Sergio Oscar Sainz.

Élodie Guégan is a French middle distance runner, who specialized in the 800 metres. She won two medals, silver and bronze, for the 800 metres at the 2005 European Athletics U23 Championships in Erfurt, Germany, and at the 2007 European Athletics U23 Championships in Debrecen, Hungary. She also set a personal best time of 1:58.93 by finishing fifth at the 2008 ÅF Golden League in Saint-Denis, Paris.
