Lisa Barbelin (born 10 April 2000 [1] ) is a French archer, who won the recurve events at the 2021 European Archery Championships, and 2022 European Indoor Archery Championships. She has previously won multiple medals at the World Youth Archery Championships, and won bronze medals in events at the 2019 and 2022 Archery World Cups. In June 2021 she was the world's number one ranked competitor. Barbelin competed in the women's individual event at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Career

Barbelin trains at the Société de tir de Dieuze in Dieuze, Moselle, [2] and Les Archers riomois  [ fr ] in Auvergne. [3] [4]

She competed at the 2017 European Junior Archery Cup, finishing third in the individual event in Marathon, Greece, and second in the individual and team events in Poreč, Croatia. [2] That year she also came third in the team event at the 2017 World Youth Archery Championships. [5] She was part of the French team that came third in the team event at the 2019 Archery World Cup event in Medellín, Colombia. [6] In the same year, she competed in the World Youth Archery Championships, finishing second in the team event and fourth in the individual event. [7] [8] Later in the year, she attended a 10-day workshop in Gwangju, South Korea, where she was trained by former Olympic champion Ki Bo-bae. [9] In February 2020, Barbelin won the French women's Olympic selection test event. [10] During the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in France, she trained in her parents' garden in Ley, Moselle. [1]

In December 2020, Barbelin came third at an Indoor Archery World Series that was held virtually. [11] In March 2021, she won an event in Poreč. [12] In June 2021, Barbelin won the recurve event at the 2021 European Archery Championships. [4] [13] [14] She was the first French woman to win a European Archery Championships since Bérengère Schuh in 2008. [3] [4] As a result, she became the number one ranked women's archer, [13] and she qualified for the women's individual event at the 2020 Summer Olympics. [4] [13] Her qualification was assured after winning her quarter-final match at the Championships. [15] Her position as number one women's archer was brief as in the same month she was demoted to second place; [16] she was overtaken by Indian Deepika Kumari. [17] At the Games, Barbelin finished 13th in the ranking round, [18] and was eliminated from the knockout section of the event in the round of 8. [19] Later in the year, Barbelin was part of the French team that came third in the women's team event at the 2021 World Archery Championships. [20] She was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the individual [21] and mixed team events at the Championships. [22]

She won the gold medal in the women's recurve event at the 2022 European Indoor Archery Championships held in Laško, Slovenia. [23] [24] She was part of the French team that finished third in the recurve event at the 2022 Archery World Cup event in Medellín, Colombia. [25] She was part of the French team that came second in the recurve event at the 2023 European Games. [26]

Personal life

Barbelin is from Ley, Moselle, France. [27] She studies chemistry at Sorbonne University. [27] [28] Barbelin is also an amateur pianist. [28]

Jung Dasomi is an archer from South Korea who specialises in recurve archery. Jung made a highly successful debut in international archery in 2011, winning medals at the World Archery Championships, Archery World Cup and Summer Universiade, and concluding the year as the number one-ranked female recurve archer in the World Archery Rankings. She won two further medals in 2014 at the Asian Games before a downturn in form relegated her from the national team. Jung did not return to international archery competitions until 2018.

Lucas Daniel is a French competitive archer. He attained a fourth-place finish in the men's team recurve at the 2015 European Games, and eventually competed as a member of the French archery squad at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Mete Gazoz is a Turkish recurve archer. He won the gold medal in the men's individual event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. He also represented Turkey at the 2016 Summer Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In the 2023 World Archery Championships held in Berlin, Mete Gazoz emerged victorious, claiming the prestigious Individual title. In an intense final, he triumphed over the skilled Canadian archer Eric Peters (archer), securing his place as the first Turkish archer to achieve the esteemed recurve gold medal in a World Championship.

Georcy-Stéphanie Thiffeault Picard is a Canadian competitive archer from Montreal, Quebec. She attained a top-ten finish as a member of the Canadian archery squad in both the individual and team recurve at the 2015 Pan American Games, and eventually competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics, losing her first round match to Chinese Taipei's team bronze medalist and world-ranked archer Tan Ya-ting. Picard currently trains under the tutelage of her coach Sylvain Cadieux at the Montreal Archery Club.

For her services to archery she was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.
