Many countries around the world maintain military units that are specifically trained to cope with CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear) threats. Beside this specialized units, most modern armed forces undergo generalized basic CBRN self-defense training for all their personnel.

Chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear defense or Nuclear, biological, and chemical protection is protective measures taken in situations in which chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear hazards may be present. CBRN defense consists of CBRN passive protection, contamination avoidance, and weapons of mass destruction mitigation.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Operation Red Dragon (civil defense exercise)</span> Civil defense readiness exercise

Exercise Red Dragon is a recurring civil defense readiness exercise conducted in Fort McCoy, Wisconsin held during the summer, training Army Reserve, National Guard units, and civilian agencies, such as fire departments, police stations, hospitals, and non-governmental organizations to improve the Defense Support of Civil Authorities capabilities for large-scale chemical defense missions.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Brigade combat team</span> Basic deployable unit of maneuver in the U.S. Army


The brigade combat team (BCT) is the basic deployable unit of maneuver in the U.S. Army. A brigade combat team consists of one combat arms branch maneuver brigade, and its assigned support and fire units. A brigade is normally commanded by a colonel (O-6) although in some cases a brigadier general (O-7) may assume command. A brigade combat team contains combat support and combat service support units necessary to sustain its operations. BCTs contain organic artillery training and support, received from the parent division artillery (DIVARTY). There are three types of brigade combat teams: infantry, Stryker, and armored.

The Pennsylvania Army National Guard, abbreviated PAARNG, is part of the United States Army National Guard and is based in the U.S. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Together with the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, it is directed by the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. The PAARNG maintains 124 armories and is present in 87 communities across the Commonwealth.

The 20th CBRNE Command is the United States Army headquarters for defense against Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and high-yield Explosives (CBRNE), headquartered on the site of the defunct Edgewood Arsenal chemical weapons production facility at Aberdeen Proving Ground in northern Maryland.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Latvian National Guard</span> Military unit

The Latvian National Guard or NG is a part of the Latvian National Armed Forces. The National Guard is a basic land component, consisting of volunteers who perform traditional national guard duties such as crisis response and support for military operations. It consists of the Staff Headquarters and 4 brigades, which are divided into 18 battalions. The National Guard continued its development also after Latvia joined NATO.

The Brazilian Special Operations Command is a part of the Brazilian Army Commands, specifically the Land Army Command. Headquartered in Central Brazil, in Goiânia, C OP ESP is positioned under the larger Planalto Military Command. Specifically, it is linked to the Terrestrial Operations Command (COTER). Its motto is "any mission, in any place, at any time, by every way".

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2nd Chemical Battalion (United States)</span> Military unit

The 2nd Chemical Battalion is a United States Army chemical unit stationed at Fort Cavazos, Texas, United States, and is part of the 48th Chemical Brigade. The battalion can trace its lineage from the 30th Engineer Regiment and has served in World War I, World War II, Korean War, Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">48th Chemical Brigade (United States)</span> Military unit

The 48th Chemical Brigade is a United States Army brigade located at Fort Cavazos, Texas and subordinate to the 20th Support Command (CBRNE). The 48th Chemical Brigade is the only active duty NBC defense brigade in the Army. The Brigade is tasked to discover, counter, and neutralize chemical, biological or nuclear threats. The Brigade was activated 16 September 2007, under the command of Colonel Vance P. (Phil) Visser and CSM E. Donald Moten.

The 23d CBRN Battalion is a Chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-yield explosives defense battalion of the United States Army, part of the 2ID Sustainment Brigade of the 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Humphreys, Korea.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">46th Military Police Command</span> Military unit

The 46th Military Police Command is a command level military police headquarters element within the Michigan Army National Guard capable of training, deploying, and providing command and control for military police, corrections, and criminal investigation division (CID) units. Its mission is to provide command and control for the operational/tactical planning, supervision, coordination and integration of assigned or attached military police combat support and internment/resettlement brigades and other military police units engaged in Army, joint, and multinational military police operations in support of the Army/combatant commander's priorities. The 46th Military Police Command was activated in 2006 after a major restructuring of Army National Guard assets.

The United States Army CBRN School (USACBRNS), located at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, is a primary American training school specializing in military Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) defense. until 2008, it was known as the United States Army Chemical School.

The 415th Chemical Brigade is a chemical unit in the United States Army Reserve, located in Greenville, South Carolina.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Russian NBC Protection Troops</span> Combat Arm of the Russian Ground Forces for NBC defence

The Troops of Radiological, Chemical and Biological Defence of the Russian Armed Forces are an organisation designed to reduce the losses of the Ground Forces and ensuring their combat tasks assigned during operations in conditions of radioactive, chemical and biological contamination, as well as at enhancing their survivability and protection against high-precision and other weapons.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">CBRNE Enhanced Response Force Package</span>

CBRNE Enhanced Response Force Packages (CERFP) are an initiative of the United States National Guard designed to integrate existing national guard units into the broader federal and local civilian emergency response personnel in instances of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) disasters. The creation of CERFPs by the US Congress in 2004, initially provided for the creation of 12 teams corresponding to the 10 region designations of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and two teams for regions three and nine, on the US east and west coasts respectively. This was later expanded in 2006 for a total of 17 teams nationwide.

14 CBRN Regiment, Sri Lanka Engineers is a regiment of the Sri Lanka Army that focuses on countering chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) hazards in the country. The Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force also maintain CBRN units in addition to the Army's CBRN regiment. The regiment evolved from the first CBRN squadron that Major General Jagath Gunawardena, the current colonel-commandant of Sri Lanka Engineers, established.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">5th Tank Brigade (Ukraine)</span> Ukrainian 5th Tank Brigade

The 5th Tank Brigade is a reserve armored formation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.

The 1st Mobile NBC Protection Brigade is a military formation of the Russian Federation, part of the NBC Protection Troops. The unit is primarily tasked with CBRN defense but also offensive tasks related to flamethrowers as per Russian military doctrine, including the use of the TOS-1 rocket system.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">43rd Mechanized Brigade (Ukraine)</span> Military unit

The 43rd Separate Mechanized Brigade is a brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces formed in 2023 on the basis of a mechanized battalion from 93rd Mechanized Brigade. The brigade is currently equipped with T-64BVs, BMP-1s, M113s and 2S1 Gvozdikas.
