The Canadian Premier League (CPL) is the top-division Canadian men's professional soccer league. In the 2023 season, the league will consist of eight teams in eight stadiums. The CPL primarily uses multi-purpose stadiums.

In an international context, its most notable usage is as the site of the Canada Women's Sevens, an event in the World Rugby Women's Sevens Series for national rugby sevens teams. The stadium also hosted the BC Bears of the Canadian Rugby Championship from 2009 to 2013, and the Victoria Highlanders soccer team from 2009 to 2011.

They returned in 2019 to compete in the Canadian Premier League from the league's inaugural season in 2019 until 2022, when it was dissolved by the league. From 2012 onward, FC Edmonton's home field had been Clarke Stadium.

The 2019 Forge FC season was the first season in the club's history, as well as first season in Canadian Premier League history. On April 27, 2019, Forge FC hosted York9 FC in the inaugural CPL match at Tim Hortons Field. During the season, Forge also participated in the Canadian Championship, CONCACAF League, and the Canadian Premier League Finals.

The 2020 Pacific FC season was the second in the club's history, as well as second in the Canadian Premier League. In 2019, Pacific finished 5th overall, failing to qualify for the CPL Finals.

The 2020 Atlético Ottawa season was the first season in the history of Atlético Ottawa.

The 2021 Pacific FC season was the third season in the history of Pacific FC, as well as third in the Canadian Premier League. In addition to the domestic league, the club competed in the Canadian Championship.

The Pacific FC–Vancouver FC rivalry, also known as the BC Derby and Salish Sea Derby, is a British Columbian intra-provincial soccer rivalry between Pacific FC of Langford, and Vancouver FC of Langley Township. They regularly compete with each other in the Canadian Premier League.

The 2024 Cavalry FC season is the sixth season in the history of Cavalry FC. In addition to the Canadian Premier League, the club will compete in the Canadian Championship and, for the first time ever, in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
