Agnieszka Holland is a Polish film and television director and screenwriter, best known for her political contributions to Polish cinema. She began her career as an assistant to directors Krzysztof Zanussi and Andrzej Wajda, and emigrated to France shortly before the 1981 imposition of the martial law in Poland.

Janosik: A True Story is a Polish, Czech, Slovak historical film about Slovak National hero highwayman Juraj Jánošík. It was directed by Agnieszka Holland and her daughter Kasia Adamik, and released in 2009.

A Hollywood Reporter article listed her among "four of the country's most prominent directors", naming her alongside the fellow Polish directors she worked on for conspiracy thriller series 1983, which was Netflix's first Polish original series.

The Polish broadcaster Telewizja Polska (TVP) organised the national final Krajowe Eliminacje 2017 in order to select the Polish entry for the 2017 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. The national final took place on 18 February 2017 and featured ten entries. "Flashlight" performed by Kasia Moś was selected as the winner after gaining the most points following the combination of votes from a five-member jury panel and a public vote.
