This list of World War I flying aces from Austria contains the names of aces born in the territory of the modern-day Republic of Austria, which formed part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Austria-Hungary was a constitutional union of the Austrian Empire ( Cisleithania ) and the Kingdom of Hungary (Transleithania) which existed from 1867 to 1918, when it collapsed as a result of defeat in World War I.

The following are lists of World War I flying aces. Historically, a flying ace was defined as a military aviator credited with shooting down five or more enemy aircraft during aerial combat. The term was first used by French newspapers, describing Adolphe Pégoud as l'as, after he downed seven German aircraft.

Franz Lahner

Feldwebel Franz Lahner (1893-1966) was a Austro-Hungarian World War I flying ace credited with five aerial victories. In later life, he was a lumber merchant and a Luftwaffe officer.

Ernst Leman

Ensign Ernst Krislanovich Leman (1894–1917) was a Russian World War I flying ace credited with five aerial victories.

Kurt Nachod

OberleutnantKurt Nachod served during World War I in the Austro-Hungarian Air Force, in which he was credited with downing five enemy aircraft, ranking him 42nd in the list of Austro-Hungarian flying aces. Unusually, all of these victories were gained while acting as an observer.

Tenente Giorgio Pessi was a World War I flying ace born in Austria-Hungary who chose to fly for Italy. He was credited with six aerial victories.

Kurt Gruber (aviator)

Kurt Gruber was an Austro-Hungarian flying ace during the First World War who held the rank of Offiziersstellvertreter. He was credited with eleven aerial victories, 5 shared with other pilots.

Franz Rudorfer

Oberleutnant Franz Rudorfer was an Austro-Hungarian World War I flying ace credited with eleven confirmed and two unconfirmed aerial victories.

Ernst Strohschneider

Oberleutnant Ernst Strohschneider was an Austro-Hungarian flying ace during World War I. He was credited with 15 confirmed aerial victories during his rise to the simultaneous command of two fighter squadrons. He died in a flying accident on 21 March 1918.

Feldwebel Stefan Fejes was an Austro-Hungarian flying ace credited with 16 confirmed and 4 unconfirmed aerial victories during World War I. By war's end, he had not only received numerous decorations, he had been personally promoted by his emperor.

Ferdinand Udvardy

Stabsfeldwebel Ferdinand Udvardy was a Hungarian conscript into the military of the Austro-Hungarian Empire who became a flying ace credited with nine aerial victories. Upon the dissolution of Austria-Hungary, Udvardy became a Hungarian citizen, and in the aftermath of World War I, defended his new nation against invasion.

SergenteGiovanni Nicelli was an Italian World War I flying ace. He was credited with eight or nine confirmed aerial victories, and died in service to his nation on 5 May 1918.
