The Ambassador of Ireland to Canada is the head of the Embassy of Ireland, Ottawa, and the official representative of the Government of Ireland to the Government of Canada.

The incumbent Ambassador is Eamonn McKee who was appointed on 13 October 2020.

History

In 1929, the Irish Free State planned to open a diplomatic mission in Ottawa, but these plans were later shelved.

In 1939, Canada and Ireland opened High Commissions in each other's capital cities. The first and only High Commissioner of Ireland to the Dominion of Canada was John Hearne.

In 1949, the Republic of Ireland Act 1948 came into force and Ireland became a republic, leaving the Commonwealth. In 1950, Ireland appointed its first Ambassador of Ireland to Canada, Seán Murphy, as the High Commission was also converted into an embassy. [1]

They are the most successful side in the Dublin Senior Football championship having won the title 29 times. The club has also won 15 Dublin Senior 1 camogie titles and completed a three in a row in 2015–2017.

Kerry are by far the most successful team in the history of Gaelic football. They have won 38 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship and have appeared in countless other All-Ireland Football Finals. Kerry footballers have been garlanded with countless awards and hold numerous individual records in the sport. Pat Spillane received nine All Stars during a glittering career, a feat matched by no other Gaelic footballer, while Tadhg Kennelly is the only holder of both an AFL Premiership medallion and a Senior All-Ireland Championship medal, the highest possible achievement in the sports of Australian rules football and Gaelic football.
