The Qatari ambassador in Beijing is the official representative of the Government in Doha to the Government of the People's Republic of China who also serves as the official representative to the Government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. [1] The governments in Doha and Beijing established diplomatic relations in July 1988. [2]

Foreign relations of Qatar is conducted through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Arab states were among the first to recognize Qatar, and the country gained admittance to the United Nations and the Arab League after achieving independence in 1971. The country was an early member of OPEC and a founding member of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Diplomatic missions to Qatar are based in its capital, Doha.

With diplomatic relations first formed in 1988, Qatar is a strategic ally of China, and the two countries maintain a strong relationship.

China PR has participated in the AFC Asian Cup since 1976.
