The Jamaican Ambassador in Beijing is the representative of the government in Kingston (Jamaica), the government of the People's Republic of China. The Jamaican Ambassador is also commissioned as high commissioner (Commonwealth).

Contents

The Jamaican Ambassador is concurrently non-resident ambassador in Hanoi (Vietnam) and Vientiane (Laos), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Singapore and Islamabad (Pakistan).

Diplomatic relations between China and Jamaica were established on 21 November 1972. The Chinese government established an embassy in Kingston in 1973. There was no formal representation from Jamaica to China until 1992, when the Jamaican ambassador to Tokyo, Japan was accredited as a non-resident ambassador to Beijing. Jamaica later established a formal embassy in Beijing, and the current ambassador is Courtenay Rattray. The current Chinese ambassador to Jamaica is Chen Jinghua. In 2007, China announced it would provide technical training for more than 2,000 Jamaicans in 2008. A growing number of Jamaican products have been promoted through the China International Import Expo (CIIE) and obtained interest in the Chinese market.

David Patrick Rowe was a Jamaican-American lawyer, professor, media commentator, corruption watchdog, Commonwealth Caribbean country risk analyst and pioneer in the area of transnational law. He has spent most of his career as a litigator in Florida, along with serving as an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law since 1989. He is one of the world's leading voices on the law of the Commonwealth Caribbean and the political economy of the wider Caribbean region, and his scholarly work and quotations have appeared in periodicals around the world. He is also frequently used as a media consultant with international publications, including the Miami Herald and The New York Times, among others.

Miss Earth Jamaica is an annual national beauty pageant to select a delegate to represent Jamaica at the international Miss Earth pageant. The current Miss Earth Jamaica is Catherine Harris who was crowned on September 23, 2020.

General elections were held in Jamaica on Thursday, 3 September 2020 to elect 63 members of Parliament. As the constitution stipulates a five-year parliamentary term, the next elections were not expected until between 25 February and 10 June 2021. However, Prime Minister Andrew Holness called early elections to ensure a united response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. On the advice of Holness, Governor General Patrick Allen dissolved Parliament on 13 August 2020.

Fay Pickersgill is a Jamaican diplomat who was Jamaican ambassador to China. She held the record of the longest serving Director of Tourism at the Jamaican Tourist Board holding this position for nine years. She was awarded the Order of Distinction for her work in the tourism industry in 2001.
