Pashtuns make up the majority of the population and a small percentage include Tajiks Gardez is the provincial capital. The traditional food in Paktia is known as (dandakai) which is made from rice and mung bean or green gram.

Sardeh Band Airport is an airport located at the town of Sardeh Band, and about 1 kilometre (1 mi) north of the Russian-built dam called Sardeh Band Dam on the eastern edge of Andar District, Ghazni Province, Afghanistan. The airfield lies in a valley 2 miles (3 km) northwest of lake Mota Khan, near the border with Paktika Province.

Sharana District or Sharan District is home to the city of Sharana, which is the capital of Paktika Province, Afghanistan. The Paktika Governor's compound is in Sharana, attached to the police headquarters for the province. The district is within the heartland of the Sulaimankhel tribe of Ghilji Pashtuns. The estimated population in 2019 was 63,626.

Mohammad Akram Khpalwāk is a politician in Afghanistan who was Governor of Farah province from 3 April 2012 to 1 December 2014. Between March 2006 and April 2010, he served as Governor of Paktika province.

Dê Mullā Samanḏar Şāḩib Kêlay or Mollā Samand is a village in Paktika Province, in eastern Afghanistan.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Jamaat-ul-Ahrar</span> Organization

Jamaat-ul-Ahrar was a terrorist organization that split away from Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan in August 2014. The group came to prominence after it claimed responsibility for the 2014 Wagah border suicide attack. In October 2017, there were unconfirmed reports that Omar Khalid Khorasani, the leader of the JuA, had died from injuries sustained in a US drone strike in Paktia Province, Afghanistan. In August 2020, it merged back to TTP.

Abdul Karim Matin is an ethnic Pashtun politician who served as the governor of Paktika Province from 2014 to 2015, and of Ghazni since 2016. Matin went to Gazi High School and studied at Kabul University. He was a Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development official for Urban Rainwater Harvesting and the Regional Coordinator for Southern Region of Afghanistan. In 2015, Mateen has escaped unharmed from an armed attack from Taliban when he was visiting security check posts in the outskirts of Sharana.

Paktika University (Pashto: د پکتیکا پوهنتون; Is a government funded higher Educational institution in Paktika, Afghanistan. It is one of universities in southern Afghanistan. Paktika University was established in 2012,the first chancellor of Paktika University was Mohammad Shifa Tassal.

Hamdullah Nomani is the mayor of Kabul since August 24, 2021, replacing Mohammad Daud Sultanzoy. He has also served the same position during the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (1996–2001). Born in Sipayaw village, Andar District, Ghazni Province, Nomani also served as Minister of Higher Education and member of the Leadership council.

Abdul Baqi Haqqani Bashir Mohammad, or Abdul Baqi Haqqani is an Afghan and senior member of the Taliban. He became acting Higher Education Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan following the Fall of Kabul in August 2021.

Maulvi Abdullah Mukhtar is an Afghan Taliban politician who is currently serving as Governor of Paktika Province since 7 November 2021.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">June 2022 Afghanistan earthquake</span> Earthquake in Afghanistan and Pakistan

A 4.0-kilometre (2.5 mi) deep earthquake measuring magnitude (Mw ) 6.2 struck southeastern Afghanistan on 22 June 2022 at 01:24:36 AFT. It affected the provinces of Paktika and Khost, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It was felt over 500 km (310 mi) away by at least 119 million people, including in Pakistan's Punjab and in parts of India and Iran. According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake had a maximum Modified Mercalli intensity of VIII (Severe).
