The following is a list of the governors of West Sumatra who have served since October 1, 1945 until now.

The governor of West Sumatra, one of the provinces of Indonesia, is the chief executive of the province. The office was created in 1958, thirteen years after Indonesian independence in 1945. [1] [2]

The vice governor of Jakarta is an elected politician who, along with the governor and 106 members of Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), is accountable for the strategic government of Jakarta. Jakarta is administratively equal to a province with special status as the capital of Indonesia. Hence, the executive head of Jakarta is a governor, instead of a mayor.

This election was held by the West Sumatra Regional General Elections Commission (KPU), to elect the Governor of West Sumatra along with his deputy to a 2021–2024 mandate.

Muhammad Abud Musa'ad is an Indonesian academic and bureaucrat who is serving as the Acting Governor of Southwest Papua since 9 December 2022. He also held office in the Ministry of Investment as the minister's expert staff for competitiveness improvement. Musaad was previously head of Papua's Regional Development Planning Agency from 2014 until 2019 and Second Assistant to the Papuan Regional Secretary from 2020 until 2022. He was also a lecturer in the Cenderawasih University, with his last position in the university being the head of the university's democratic center.

Marlis Rahman was an Indonesian politician and academic. He served as Governor of West Sumatra for eight months between 2009 and 2010, and before that as the province's vice governor between 2005 and 2009. He was previously the rector of Andalas University.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Zainal Bakar</span> Indonesian politician (1940–2012)

Zainal Bakar was an Indonesian politician and bureaucrat who served as the governor of West Sumatra between 2000 and 2005. Prior to becoming governor, he served as the regent of Padang Pariaman between 1990 and 1993, and had been part of the province's bureaucracy since 1967.

Sjoerkani was an Indonesian bureaucrat and politician. He served as the vice governor of West Sumatra between 1987 and 1992, and was also the province's secretary between 1981 and 1987. He also served as the mayor of Medan between 1966 and 1974.

Alimuddin Simanjuntak was an Indonesia bureaucrat who became the Vice Governor of North Sumatra from 1988 until 1994.
