List of mayors of Plymouth

This is a list of some notable mayors and all the later lord mayors of the city of Plymouth in the United Kingdom.

Plymouth had elected a mayor annually since 1439. The city was awarded the dignity of a lord mayoralty by letters patent dated 6 May 1935. [1] The dignity was granted as part of the silver jubilee celebrations of George V. [2] When the city became a non-metropolitan borough in 1974 the honour was confirmed by letters patent dated 1 April 1974. [3]

Plymouth City Council is the local authority for the city of Plymouth, in the ceremonial county of Devon, England. Plymouth has had a council since 1439, which has been reformed on numerous occasions. Since 1998 the council has been a unitary authority, being a district council which also performs the functions of a county council; it is independent from Devon County Council.

The Crown Office, also known as the Crown Office in Chancery, is a section of the Ministry of Justice. It has custody of the Great Seal of the Realm, and has certain administrative functions in connection with the courts and the judicial process, as well as functions relating to the electoral process for House of Commons elections, to the keeping of the Roll of the Peerage, and to the preparation of royal documents such as warrants required to pass under the royal sign-manual, fiats, letters patent, etc. In legal documents, the Crown Office refers to the office of the Clerk of the Crown in Chancery.
