This is the list of the members of the Parliament of Finland between May 1, 1924 – September 1, 1927 following the parliamentary election held April 1–2, 1924. The elections were originally scheduled be held in August 1925; but after the Socialist Workers Party had been outlawed and its members arrested, the Parliament only had 173 members instead of 200. Disagreement between President Ståhlberg and Prime Minister Kallio on the question of early elections caused the latter to resign. The new caretaker cabinet led by Aimo Cajander then ordered disbandment of the Parliament and early elections. [1]
The elections did not cause major changes to the Finnish political landscape. The communists—in the form of Socialist Workers' and Small Farmers' Election Alliance —lost 9 seats, majority of which were gained by Social Democratic Party of Finland. Together the parties on the left had only 78 seats, less than ever before. Social Democrats remained the largest group in Parliament with 60 seats, followed by Agrarian Party and National Coalition Party. [1] Among the 200 members of the Parliament were 17 women (8.5%). [2]
Kyösti Kallio acted as Speaker of the Parliament of Finland until he became Minister in March 1925. Wäinö Wuolijoki was then the Speaker 1925–26 and Paavo Virkkunen 1926–27. [1]
Only the first of the four cabinets formed during this parliament had a majority, [3] and it too lost its majority when the Agrarian Party withdraw from cabinet following a disagreement on pensions of government officials. The Ingman cabinet finally resigned four months after that due to defeat of the election bill. [1]
As neither National Progressive Party nor Swedish People's Party were willing to enter the new cabinet due to their disappointment with the election bill, Antti Tulenheimo formed a minority cabinet between National Coalition and Agrarian Parties. After this cabinet had resigned due to question of national defense funding, Kyösti Kallio headed another cabinet formed on the same basis. [1]
The fourth and last cabinet formed during this Parliament and led by Väinö Tanner is important in the Finnish political history for several reasons. It was the first time the largest party in Finland, the Social Democrats, had participated in a cabinet during the time Finland had been independent, and also only the second time in the history of the Parliament of Finland after the Tokoi senate in 1917. [1] It also had Finland's first female minister, Miina Sillanpää. [4]

The names are given here as in the membership roll of the Parliament; for example the name Svento is used instead of Sventorzetski even though the latter version was used until 1938.

Kyösti Kallio was a Finnish politician who served as the fourth president of Finland from 1937 to 1940. His presidency included leading the country through the Winter War; while he relinquished the post of commander-in-chief to Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim, he played a role as a spiritual leader. After the war, he became both the first President of Finland to resign and the only one to die in office, dying of a heart attack while returning home after submitting his resignation.
Lauri Kristian Relander was the second president of Finland (1925–1931). A prominent member of the Agrarian League, he served as a member of Parliament, and as Speaker, before his election as President.
Kaarlo Juho Ståhlberg was a Finnish jurist and academic who was one of the most important pioneers of republicanism in the country. He was the first president of Finland (1919–1925) and a liberal nationalist.
Väinö Alfred Tanner was a leading figure in the Social Democratic Party of Finland, and a pioneer and leader of the cooperative movement in Finland. He was Prime Minister of Finland in 1926–1927.
Aimo Kaarlo Cajander was the Prime Minister of Finland up to the Winter War.
The Centre Party, officially the Centre Party of Finland, is an agrarian-centrist political party in Finland. Ideologically, the Centre Party is positioned in the centre of the political spectrum. It has been described as liberal, social-liberal, liberal-conservative, and conservative-liberal. The party’s leader is Antti Kaikkonen, who was elected in June 2024 to succeed former minister Annika Saarikko. As of June 2023, the party has been a part of the parliamentary opposition.
Satakunta is one of the 13 electoral districts of the Parliament of Finland, the national legislature of Finland. The district was established as Turku Province North in 1907 when the Diet of Finland was replaced by the Parliament of Finland. It was renamed Satakunta in 1997. It is conterminous with the region of Satakunta. The district currently elects eight of the 200 members of the Parliament of Finland using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2023 parliamentary election it had 176,653 registered electors.
Johan (Juho) Emil Sunila was a Finnish politician from the Agrarian League, the managing director of the agrarian finance board, and Prime Minister of Finland in two cabinets. He was born in Liminka.
Parliamentary elections were held in Finland between 1 and 3 July 1922. The Social Democratic Party remained the largest in Parliament with 53 of the 200 seats. The caretaker government of Professor Aimo Cajander (Progressive), that President Kaarlo Juho Ståhlberg had appointed in June 1922, following the resignation of Prime Minister Juho Vennola (Progressive), remained in office until Kyösti Kallio formed an Agrarian-Progressive minority government in November 1922. Voter turnout was 58.5%.
Parliamentary elections were held in Finland on 1 and 2 April 1924. Although the Social Democratic Party remained the largest in Parliament with 60 of the 200 seats, Lauri Ingman of the National Coalition Party formed a centre-right majority government in May 1924. It remained intact until the Agrarians left in November 1924. Voter turnout was 57.4%.
The Young Communist League of Finland was the youth organization of the Communist Party of Finland (SKP) 1925–1936. The organization was clandestine, but had a significant impact in Finnish society. SKNL was a section of the Communist Youth International.
Lauri Ingman's second cabinet was the 11th Government of independent Finland, serving between 31 May 1924 – 31 March 1925. It was formed following the 1924 parliamentary elections between four parties—National Coalition Party, Agrarian Party, National Progressive Party and Swedish People's Party—and had a majority in the parliament during the first six months. Overall, the cabinet lasted 305 days in office.
Hjalmar Johan Fredrik Procopé was a Finnish politician and a diplomat from the Swedish People's Party. Procopé was a minister in several cabinets in the 1920s and 1930s.
Pekka Meriläinen was a Finnish stonemason and politician, born in Nurmes. He was a member of the Parliament of Finland from 1924 until his death in 1926, representing the Social Democratic Party of Finland (SDP). He committed suicide by jumping into the Imatrankoski rapids.
Kaarlo Henrik Hillilä was a Finnish politician who served as the provincial governor of Lapland (1938–1947), head of the market town of Rovaniemi, minister of the interior (1944–1945), minister of supply (1945–1946), and director general of the Social Insurance Institution (1946–1954).
Svantte Ferdinand Vuorio was a Finnish farmer and politician, born in Huittinen. He was a member of the Parliament of Finland from 1924 to 1925, representing the Socialist Electoral Organisation of Workers and Smallholders.
Toivo Aapeli Janhonen was a Finnish Lutheran pastor and politician, born in Jyväskylä. He was a member of the Parliament of Finland from 1924 until his death in 1939, representing the Agrarian League. He served as Minister of Social Affairs from 7 October 1936 to 12 March 1937. He was a presidential elector in the 1925 and 1937 presidential elections.
