As of the 2010 Census, the population of the republic was 834,755. [2] Ethnic Russians (53.4%) and Mordvins (40.0%) account for the majority of the population.

Insar is a town and the administrative center of Insarsky District of the Republic of Mordovia, Russia, located at the confluence of the Issa and Insarka Rivers, 77 kilometers (48 mi) southwest of Saransk, the capital of the republic. As of the 2010 Census, its population was 8,687.
