Listen... Tanks! is an avant-garde [1] music group, consisting of Gary Lightbody (of Snow Patrol) and producer Jacknife Lee, who has produced the last three albums for Snow Patrol, among others. The group's music is very different from Snow Patrol and has been termed "weird" by Lightbody. The group will visit Lee's home in January 2010 to record an album, after they finish working on another project Tired Pony.

History

Listen... Tanks! evolved after experiments in the studio between Gary Lighbody and Jacknife Lee. [2] Lightbody has credited indie rock band Sunset Rubdown's second album Shut Up I Am Dreaming as inspiration to himself and Lee to start the project. [3] Both Lightbody and Lee play all the instruments. [4] The only known song by the group is "Black and Silver", which was premiered on BBC Radio 1 on 10 January 2007 by Lightbody himself, [5] while he was guest presenting for Zane Lowe (who was on vacation) during the 2007 takeovers. [6] The sound of the song was described by Hot Press as "heavily treated vocals and assorted electronic clicks and beeps". [7] NME described it as having a "heavily processed arrangement, pitching an ominous multi-tracked vocal backing against glockenspiels and Lightbody’s vocal". [8] Lightbody himself sees the song as "a strange, little, dark, country, folkish beast." [7] Apart from "Black and Silver", more music has been recorded, whose direction has been branded by Lightbody as a "mad turn". [9]

In May 2009, Lightbody revealed plans of releasing material in an album called Listen Tank. He described the group's sound as "russian submarine music", explaining that the record utilizes a lot more voice than the guitar, the result sounding like a choir performing underwater. [11] Due to the radical differences from typical Snow Patrol, he doesn't expect every fan to like it. [10] Lightbody has taken a year-off from Snow Patrol to work on the project. [12] Lightbody has hinted at the possible inclusion of a few guests on the record, but nothing has been confirmed. [13] The duo will visit Lee's Los Angeles home in January 2010 to finish the album after they finish working on another Lightbody side-project, Tired Pony. [10] [14]

<i>Up to Now</i> 2009 compilation album by Snow Patrol

Up to Now is the first compilation album by alternative rock band Snow Patrol. The album features tracks spanning Snow Patrol's fifteen-year music career, including tracks from The Reindeer Section, a side-project/supergroup involving musicians from all over Scotland. The album was released in early November 2009, primarily as a two-disc set and a three-disc digipak format containing one DVD of bonus material. A limited edition heavyweight box was also sold. Three new songs were released on the album. One of these was "Just Say Yes", the lead single taken from the compilation. The solo re-recording of "An Olive Grove Facing the Sea" was released as the album's second single. In Netherlands, Belgium and Finland "Run" was re-released in a version called "Run " in January 2010.

Tired Pony was an indie folk supergroup consisting of Gary Lightbody, Richard Colburn, Iain Archer, Jacknife Lee, Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey, Tom Smith and Troy Stewart. Lightbody formed the group out of his appreciation for country music, and has during the early planning phase described the group's music once as "country-tinged" but explained later that in the end the album's development turned out much more Americana than country during the whole creative process in the studio. The group visited Portland, Oregon in January 2010 to record this debut album, which was produced by member Lee; The Place We Ran From was released on 12 July 2010. Tired Pony began recording their second album The Ghost of the Mountain on 19 February 2013, which was released on 19 August 2013.

The Place We Ran From is the debut album by the alternative rock/alt country supergroup Tired Pony, released on July 5, 2010, through Polydor/Fiction in the United Kingdom and on July 28, 2010, in the United States by Mom and Pop. The album grew from what was initially a solo project for Snow Patrol songwriter Gary Lightbody which rapidly became a collaboration with members of Belle and Sebastian, R.E.M., and producer Jacknife Lee joining as well as contributions from actress and singer Zooey Deschanel, guitarist M. Ward, and Tom Smith of the indie rock group Editors. The tracks were recorded over the course of one week in January 2010, in Portland, Oregon. The album was recorded over the course of one week in January 2010 and charted in over a half dozen countries.

<i>Wildness</i> (album) 2018 studio album by Snow Patrol

Wildness is the seventh studio album by Northern Irish-Scottish rock band Snow Patrol. The album was released on 25 May 2018. It is their first album with Johnny McDaid as a full member of the band, after his involvement as a guest musician and songwriter on Fallen Empires and participation in its tour. It was also the last album feature bassist Paul Wilson and drummer Jonny Quinn who both left the band in September 2023.
