Liza Pusztai (born 11 May 2001) [1] is a Hungarian sabre fencer. She is a two-time world champion in the team sabre and a two-time European Championships silver and bronze medallist. Pusztai represented Hungary at the 2020 Summer Olympics and 2024 Summer Olympics. She is also a junior world champion and two-time Youth Olympics gold medalist, having won the girls' sabre event and the mixed team event at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics. [1] [2] [3]

Career

Pusztai won her first senior international medal at the 2017 European Championships in Tbilisi, where she won a bronze medal in the women's sabre event. [4] In 2018, she won gold medals in the girls' sabre event and the mixed team event at the Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, and the gold medal in the women's sabre event at the Hungarian Fencing Championships held in Budapest. In 2019, she won the silver medal in the women's team sabre event at the European Championships in Düsseldorf. [5]

In 2021, Pusztai competed in the women's sabre event and the women's team sabre event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, where she was eliminated in the round of 16 and placed eight with the Hungarian team respectively. [6] She won the gold medal in the women's team sabre event at the 2022 World Championships in Cairo. [7] Pusztai and the Hungarian team retained their world title at the 2023 World Championships in Milan. [8] In 2024, she won the silver medal in the women's sabre event at the 2024 European Championships held in Basel. [4]

Pusztai competed in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, reaching the round of 16 in the women's sabre event and placing sixth in the women's team sabre event. [9]

The Ukrainian Fencing Federation commonly known by the acronym NFFU, established in 1992, is the governing body of Ukrainian fencing. Through 2022, Ukrainian fencers won 230 medals combined in the Olympic Games, World championships, and European championships.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Fencing at the 2024 Summer Olympics</span>

The fencing competitions at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris were run from 27 July to 4 August at the Grand Palais strip. A total of 212 fencers, with an equal distribution between men and women, competed across twelve medal events at the Games. For the second straight time, Paris 2024 witnessed both men and women fence against each other in the individual and team events held in all three weapons.

Colin Heathcock is an American right-handed sabre fencer. He represented the United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Luca Szűcs is a Hungarian sabre fencer. She is a two-time world champion and won the women's team sabre events at the World Championships in 2022 and 2023. Szűcs is also a two-time junior world champion and three-time junior European champion. She represented Hungary at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
