Lorain County Joint Vocational School is a public vocational school in Oberlin, Ohio. LCJVS primarily serves 13 school districts located in Lorain County, with parts of Erie and Huron counties also covered.
Altogether the school's main campus has an enrollment of about 1,000 high school junior and seniors, while about 300 students study at satellite locations in their member districts. The affiliated Adult Center also has 4,000 students annually. [1]
In the 1960s, Ohio governor James A. Rhodes envisioned joint vocational schools as a way to provide proper technical training for rural school districts that did not offer them as their larger city district counterparts had. Six districts initially made up Lorain County JVS before it expanded to its current 13. In the 1980s, the curriculum expanded to include 23 programs, and after the technological boom in the 1990s, more opportunities arose while partnerships with area colleges provided college credits. A 2,400 sq. ft. greenhouse was eventually added as well.
Along with being ISO 9001:2000 Certified and accredited by the North Central Association, the school is also affiliated with National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS), National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER), American Culinary Federation (ACF), Cisco Systems Networking Academy (Cisco), National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), and Automotive Yes (AYES). The Oberlin Heritage Center is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, governed by an 18-member Board of Trustees. The organization is funded by memberships, annual fund contributions, investments, grants, fund-raising projects and planned gifts. Over 700 members hail from Oberlin and elsewhere in Lorain County, as well as from across the country.
The New Indian Ridge Museum, Historic Shupe Homestead, and Wildlife Preserve is a private museum and nature reserve located on Beaver Creek in Amherst, Ohio, consisting of the Shupe Homestead site. The grounds contain two additional lots of upland and lowland mature wooded forest that contain wetlands, vernal pools, and an area floodplain. The property contains numerous tree and wildflower species, several fern types, buttonbushes, pawpaw trees, native green dragon wildflowers, and about fifty different species of birds.

EHOVE Career Center is a public vocational school in Milan, Ohio. EHOVE is an acronym that stands for Erie Huron Ottawa Vocational Education. While Erie, Huron and Ottawa counties are the primary covered counties in the district, the school also serves students in nearby Lorain, Sandusky, and Seneca counties, as well as small parts of Ashland and Richland counties.
Lorain High School is part of Lorain City School District in Lorain, Ohio and was founded in 1876, beginning as a two-year high school course. In 1879, the first graduating class consisted of three members. By 1883, the high school curriculum was expanded to three years and in 1889, it was expanded to four years.
The Lorain County League (LC8) is an Ohio high school athletic league that began with the 2019-20 school year and is made up of eight schools predominantly based in Lorain County, Ohio. All schools are members of the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Previous versions of a Lorain County League existed from 1924–61 and again from 1968-2005.
