Luke Gunn (born 22 March 1985) is a British male track and field athlete who competed in the 3000 metres steeplechase. He married fellow athlete Hannah England in 2013.
Born in Derby, Derbyshire, England, Luke Gunn studied Sport and Material Science at Birmingham University, graduating in 2006. [1]
Gunn was AAA National Champion for Steeplechase in 2009. He was United Kingdom 3000 m Steeplechase Champion between 2009 and 2012. [2] Gunn was placed 4th in the Men's 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2005 Summer Universiade. [3] [ dead link ]
Luke Gunn was placed 5th in the 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2014 European Team Championships Super League. [4] Gunn was 5th in the 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2010 European Team Championships Super League. [5] Gunn was placed 6th in the Men's 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2007 European Athletics U23 Championships. Gunn finished 6th in the Men's 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2005 European Athletics U23 Championships. Gunn represented England at the Commonwealth Games in 2006, 2010 and 2014. Gunn came 12th in the Men's 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Gunn was placed 7th in the Men's 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Gunn was 7th in the Men's 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. [11]
Luke Gunn finished 72nd in the Senior men's race at the 2011 IAAF World Cross Country Championships. [12] He used to represent ASICS but towards the end of his career moved to the Copper Fox.
Saif Saaeed Shaheen, formerly Stephen Cherono, is a steeplechase runner. He was born in Keiyo, Kenya but now he represents Qatar. He was, for 19 years, the world record holder for 3000 metre steeplechase. He is a two time World Champion in the event. His older brother Abraham Cherono is also a steeplechase runner.
Fionnuala McCormack is an Irish runner who has competed at a range of distance running events. She was the gold medallist at the 2011 and 2012 European Cross Country Championships, become the first woman to successfully defend the title. She has represented Ireland in the steeplechase at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2012 London Olympics, the 2007 World Championships in Athletics and 2011 World Championships in Athletics, and twice at the European Athletics Championships.
Ancuța Bobocel is a Romanian middle-distance runner who specializes in the 3000 metres steeplechase. She represented Romania at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics and is a three-time participant at the World Championships in Athletics. In 2009, she won the European U23 and Jeux de la Francophonie steeplechase titles, as well as a silver at the Summer Universiade.
Sophie Duarte is a French runner who specializes in the 3000 metres steeplechase. She placed fifth at the 2007 World Championships, setting a French record, and won the individual gold medal at 2013 European Cross Country Championships.
Evan Reese Jager is an American middle- and long-distance runner who specializes in the 3000 metres steeplechase. In his speciality event, he won a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics and a bronze at the 2017 World Championships. Jager is the current NACAC area record holder in the event with a time of 8:00.45. He is sponsored by Nike and is coached by Jerry Schumacher of the Bowerman Track Club.
Elena Romagnolo is an Italian steeplechaser, middle and long-distance runner. She is the national record holder in the 3000 metres steeplechase, but now competes mainly in the 5000 metres.
Dorcus Inzikuru is a Ugandan track and field athlete, competing in the steeplechase. She won the inaugural world title in women's 3000 m steeplechase, as well as the first Commonwealth title in the event. Her coach is Renato Canova. Sometimes her name is spelt "Docus". It was misspelled in her passport, and the mistake was perpetuated when she entered international races.
Andrew James Vernon is a British long-distance runner who specialised in the 5000 metres, the 10,000 metres on track and cross country running. After the 2018 commonwealth games and started to concentrate on the roads winning Manchester Half Marathon with the aim of doing a full marathon in 2019. Vernon competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the men's 10,000 metres. He has also competed in two Commonwealth Games, a World Indoor Championship and six World Cross Country Championships. Vernon is a two-time European Athletics Championship medallist and a Summer Universiade gold medallist. He currently competes for Aldershot, Farnham & District AC.
Conseslus Kipruto is a Kenyan middle-distance runner who specializes in the 3000 metres steeplechase. He was the 2016 Rio Olympic champion in the event. At the World Athletics Championships, Kipruto won gold medals in 2017 and 2019, silver medals in 2013 and 2015, and a bronze in 2022. In 2018, he captured gold medals at the African Championships and Commonwealth Games. He is a four-time Diamond League winner.
Mitko Tsenov is a Bulgarian middle-distance runner who specializes in various events. He represented Bulgaria at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics. As of 2014, Tsenov is the fastest Bulgarian to have ever run the 3000 metres steeplechase, breaking Mikhail Zhelev's national record on June 12, 2014.
Susan Krumins is a Dutch middle- and long-distance runner. She was the 5000 metres bronze medalist at the 2014 European Athletics Championships and also won a 3000 metres bronze at the 2014 IAAF Continental Cup.
Kate Avery is a British long-distance runner. She competes in track and road competitions but specialises in cross country running. She was twice silver medallist at the 2014 European Cross Country Championships and 2015, and also a gold medallist on both occasions as part of the Great Britain women's senior team. She became the first British woman to win the NCAA Women's Division I Cross Country Championship in 2014, running for Iona College.
George Kiprotich "Kip" Rono is a Kenyan former steeplechase runner. He won a gold medal in the event at the 1979 African Championships in Athletics and was the first African steeplechase winner at the 1979 IAAF World Cup.
Martin Christian Grau is a German track and field athlete who specialises in the 3000 metres steeplechase. He holds a personal best of 8:24.29 minutes for the event, set in 2014. He was the gold medallist at the 2015 Summer Universiade.
Madeline Heiner is an Australian runner. She placed fourth in the women's 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, she placed 7th in the 3000m steeplechase final and 10th in the 5000m final. She also represented Australia in the 2015 IAAF World Championships, 2017 IAAF World Championships and the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Hailemariyam Amare Tegegn is an Ethiopian runner specialising in the 3000 metres steeplechase. Hailemariyam placed 5th in the 2014 World Junior Championships. He represented his country at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing finishing twelfth in the final. He won a bronze medal at the 2015 African Games. He participated at the 2016 Summer Olympics but failed to reach the final. In 2022, he set a personal best time of 8:06.29 to finish 3rd at the Meeting International Mohammed VI d'Athletisme de Rabat. Later that year, he won the 3000 metres steeplechase and 5000 metres at the African Championships. He competed at the 2022 World Athletics Championships, reaching the 3000m steeplechase final and placing 10th. He was 8th at the 2022 Diamond League Final in Zurich.
Courtney Frerichs is an American middle-distance runner and steeplechase specialist from Nixa, Missouri, She is a three-time silver medalist in the 3000 meters steeplechase capturing silver at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, the 2017 World Championships in London and at the 2018 World (Continental) Cup in Ostrava. In 2021, she became the first American woman to run under nine-minutes in a women’s 3000-meters steeplechase event with a time of 8:57.77; establishing an American and Area record. She is a two-time Olympian making the US team in 2016 and 2020. In both of her Olympic Trials she finished second to US National Champion, Emma Coburn.
Peruth Chemutai is a Ugandan steeplechase runner. She won the gold medal in the women's 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, becoming the first Ugandan woman ever to win an Olympic medal.
Avinash Mukund Sable is an Indian track and field athlete who specializes in 3000 metres steeplechase. He holds the national record of 8:09.91, set at the 2024 Paris Diamond League where he finished at the 6th spot. It was the tenth time he had set the national record.
Kosei Yamaguchi is a Japanese long-distance runner. He competed in the senior men's race at the 2019 IAAF World Cross Country Championships held in Aarhus, Denmark. He finished in 80th place.
