Pueblo refers to the settlements and to the Native American tribes of the Pueblo peoples in the Southwestern United States,currently in New Mexico,Arizona,and Texas. The permanent communities,including some of the oldest continually occupied settlements in the United States,are called pueblos (lowercased).
Manuel Archibald Lujan Jr. was an American politician from New Mexico who sat in the U.S. House of Representatives as a Republican from 1969 to 1989 and was the United States secretary of the interior from 1989 to 1993. He was a colleague of George H. W. Bush in the House from 1969 to 1971. In 1989,President Bush named Lujan to his cabinet.

The Pueblo of Laguna,New Mexico is a federally recognized tribe of Native American Pueblo people in west-central New Mexico,near the city of Albuquerque,in the United States. Part of the Laguna territory is included in the Albuquerque metropolitan area,chiefly around Laguna's Route 66 Resort and Casino. The name,Laguna,is Spanish and derives from the lake on their reservation. This body of water was formed by an ancient dam that was constructed by the Laguna people. After the Pueblo Revolt of 1680–1696,the Mission San Joséde la Laguna was erected by the Spanish at the old pueblo and finished around July 4,1699.
Oasisamerica is a cultural region of Indigenous peoples in North America. Their precontact cultures were predominantly agrarian,in contrast with neighboring tribes to the south in Aridoamerica. The region spans parts of Northwestern Mexico and Southwestern United States and can include most of Arizona and New Mexico;southern parts of Utah and Colorado;and northern parts of Sonora and Chihuahua. During some historical periods,it might have included parts of California and Texas as well.
Marie Zieu Chino (1907–1982) was a Native American potter from Acoma Pueblo,New Mexico. Marie and her friends Lucy M. Lewis and Jessie Garcia are recognized as the three most important Acoma potters during the 1950s. Along with Juana Leno,they have been called "The Four Matriarchs" who "revived the ancient style of Acoma pottery." The inspiration for many designs used on their pottery were found on old potsherds gathered to use for temper. Together they led the revival of ancient pottery forms including the Mimbres,Tularosa and other various cultures in the Anasazi region. This revival spread to other potters who also accepted the old styles,which led to new innovative designs and variations of style and form.
Solomon Bibo was a German Yiddish trader in the American Old West who became governor of Acoma Pueblo,equivalent of the tribal chief. He was the only non-Native person ever to serve as a governor of the Acoma Pueblo.

Tanya Marie Trujillo is an American attorney and political advisor who serves as the Deputy State Engineer and Governor’s water policy adviser for the State of New Mexico. She previously served as the assistant secretary of the United States Department of the Interior for water and science.
The All Pueblo Council of Governors is a non-profit Puebloan leadership organization and political entity. They represent the 20 modern Pueblos –19 across New Mexico and one in Texas –on legislative,cultural and government issues. Some of the issues they fight for are the Pueblo Land Claims Act and the Indian Civil Rights Acts of 1968. They advocate for the sovereign rights of the Puebloan people and promote educational and economic advancement of the Pueblo nations. The council works to preserve the language,culture and traditions of the 20 pueblos.
