The MTV Asia Awards 2008 returned on August 2, 2008 after a one-year hiatus. [1] The event was held at the 6,000-seat Arena of Stars in Genting Highlands, Malaysia. [2] This was the first time the award show was held in Malaysia. [3] This was the sixth and final MTV Asia Awards.

Contents

Nominees were announced on June 14, 2008 via the channel. [4] At the same day the MTV Asia Awards official website was also reopened. Voting commences from June 14 until July 25, 2008. Unlike previous award shows, international categories were not chosen by viewers (except for the Favorite International Artist in Asia award) and included for the first time Best Hook Up, Bring Da House Down, and the Innovation Award. [5]

Viewers were able to vote from the official site or by text messaging service. The event was hosted by Jared Leto and Karen Mok as co-host. [6] [7] [8]

Also a special performance from Project E.A.R., a rap group consisting of at least one personnel from Hip Hop group Ahli Fiqir (Singapore), Pop Shuvit (Malaysia), Saint Loco (Indonesia), Slapshock (Philippines), Silksounds and Thaitanium from Thailand.

Regina Encarnacion Ansong Velasquez is a Filipino singer and actress. She is considered one of the most influential figures in Philippine popular culture and is known for her vocal range and belting technique. She had unorthodox voice training during her childhood, where she was immersed neck-deep in the sea. Velasquez rose to prominence after winning the television talent show Ang Bagong Kampeon in 1984 and the Asia Pacific Singing Contest in 1989. Under the name Chona, she signed a recording contract with OctoArts International in 1986 and released the single "Love Me Again", which was commercially unsuccessful. The following year, she adopted the stage name Regine Velasquez for her debut studio album, Regine (1987), under the guidance of Viva Records executive Vic del Rosario and producer Ronnie Henares. She explored Manila sound and kundiman genres on her second and third studio albums, Nineteen 90 (1990) and Tagala Talaga (1991).

The MTV Asia Awards 2006 was held at the Siam Paragon in Bangkok, Thailand. The show aired live on Saturday, May 6 across Asian MTV channels. Like previous award shows, the show is best known for live performances featuring collaborations of Eastern and Western act. The show was hosted by Wang Leehom together with Kelly Rowland replacing Kelly Clarkson.

"Hurricane" is a song written by American rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars that is featured on their third studio album, This Is War. The song was written by lead vocalist and songwriter Jared Leto and produced by Leto, Flood and Steve Lilywhite. There are two versions of this song, one of which is included on the album and another which is a collaboration with rapper Kanye West, titled "Hurricane 2.0". "Hurricane" was awarded Best Single at the Kerrang! Awards 2011. The thirteen-minute music video, directed by Leto under the pseudonym Bartholomew Cubbins, garnered controversy when it premiered on November 29, 2010. It was banned by MTV because of its sexual content. An edited version, however, was put on heavy rotation on MTV2.

"Up in the Air" is a song recorded by American rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars, featured on their fourth studio album, Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams (2013). Written by lead vocalist Jared Leto, who also produced the song with Steve Lillywhite, "Up in the Air" is an introspective and passionate track reflecting upon human consciousness. It marked a departure from much of the band's previous work as it incorporates a more electronic-influenced sound as well as elements from new wave music.

Jared Leto is an American entertainer with an extensive career in film, music, and television. He made his debut with minor roles in the television shows Camp Wilder (1992) and Almost Home (1993). He achieved recognition in 1994 for his role as Jordan Catalano in the teen drama television series My So-Called Life. The show was praised for its portrayal of adolescence and gained a cult following, despite being canceled after only one season. The same year, he made his television film debut starring alongside Alicia Silverstone in Cool and the Crazy. Leto's first film role was in the 1995 drama How to Make an American Quilt. IV of Spades was a Filipino rock band from Metro Manila, Philippines, consisting of vocalist, bassist and keyboardist Zild Benitez, vocalist and lead guitarist Blaster Silonga, and drummer Badjao de Castro. Unique served as the band's lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist until he left the band in 2018. The band first gained exposure with the release of their 4th single "Mundo".
