MTV was a former pan-Asian pay-television channel owned by Paramount Networks EMEAA that launched on 3 May 1995. MTV Southeast Asia officially main public aired on Singapore and Johor Bahru/Johor Bahru District via Channel 5 from 29 September 1995 until 31 August 2022 as TCS Channel 5 officially broadcast 24-hour on the same day so TCS Channel 5 officially commenced its full 24-hour broadcasts becoming the very second channel in Singapore and Channel 8 very first time from 1 January 2012 until 1 November 2014 and very final last time from 1 November 2015 until 31 August 2022 as TCS Channel 8 became very first channel to officially broadcast 24-hour it was officially closed on 31 August 2022.

History

Pre-launch

The first incarnation of MTV Asia was originally launched on 15 September 1991. It was owned by a joint-venture between the STAR TV Network and Viacom. Three years later, MTV Asia left the STAR TV Network on 2 May 1994, with the channel's space being taken by Channel V on 27 May 1994.

Launch

MTV Southeast Asia was officially launched on 3 May 1995 as a 24-hour English-language music channel broadcast from Singapore seen throughout Southeast Asia in territories including Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. At the same time, MTV Southeast Asia along with sister channel MTV Indonesia was officially launched on the Palapa C2 digital satellite.

After officially launching of MTV Southeast Asia, MTV Southeast Asia officially main public aired on Singapore and Johor Bahru/Johor Bahru District via Channel 5 from 29 September 1995 until 31 August 2022 as TCS Channel 5 officially broadcast 24-hour on the same day so TCS Channel 5 officially commenced its full 24-hour broadcasts becoming the very second channel in Singapore and Channel 8 very first time from 1 January 2012 until 1 November 2014 and very final last time from 1 November 2015 until 31 August 2022 as TCS Channel 8 became very first channel to officially broadcast 24-hour it was officially closed on 31 August 2022.

From 1 May 2021 until 1 September 2022, MTV Southeast Asia shortened its broadcast of programs to 8 hours (4:00pm to 12:00mn (SGT)) to simulcast programs from sister channel MTV Live from 12:00mn to 4:00pm (SGT)) daily as MTV Southeast Asia focused on more music content with less entertainment programming on its schedule.

Closure

As part of a restructuring at Paramount Networks EMEAA and as preparation of the launch of Paramount+ in Southeast Asia in 2023, MTV Asia began to cease broadcasting in several territories. In Singapore, following StarHub's review of its content offerings, and the recent launch of MTV Asia On Demand, MTV Asia ceased on StarHub TV on 29 April 2022. [1]

MTV ceased broadcasting in Asia after 27 years, with MTV Live replaced the channel on Astro, Unifi TV and I-Cable, while the rest of the providers began carrying MTV 90s. [2]

Masters of the Sea was a 1994 Singapore English drama series produced by the Television Corporation of Singapore (TCS) based on The Bold and the Beautiful series from United States. It was the first full-length Singapore English drama series to be produced in Singapore. It officially began on Wednesday, 12 October 1994 to Wednesday, 5 April 1995. This drama serial consists of 26 episodes. It began production on 1 March 1994 and completed on 30 June 1994 durated 4 months. This drama was aired on Singapore's national free-to-air terrestrial channel by Television Corporation of Singapore (TCS) Channel 5 every Wednesday from 10:00pm to 10:30pm SST, with a duration of 30 minutes, before News 5 Tonight, with audio language localised into Singapore English/Singlish dubbed. Diva was an English-language pay television channel in Singapore. It launched on 3 May 1995 as Hallmark Entertainment Network, along with E!, and was first owned by Television Corporation of Singapore (TCS). In 2010, as part of an agreement with NBCUniversal International Networks, the channel was renamed Diva Universal in 2010 and then Diva in 2014. It closed at the end of 2019 in anticipation of the launch of the streaming service Hayu in the region.
