Polsat Comedy Central Extra is a Polish channel focusing on comedy owned by Paramount Networks EMEAA. It was launched on 29 April 2010 as a programming block on VH1 Poland. On 14 January 2011, VH1 Poland was rebranded as Comedy Central Family. [1]

Contents

On 24 April 2012, VH1 Poland was relaunched, replacing VH1 Europe in Poland.

On 12 June 2012, Comedy Central Family started broadcasting in 16:9 picture format.

On 3 March 2020, the channel was rebranded into Polsat Comedy Central Extra. [2] Comedy Central Family was only available in Hungary until its closedown in July of 2024.

Disco polo is a genre of popular dance music, created in Poland in the 1980s. It was initially known as sidewalk music or backyard music. This genre, a type of Polish urban folk music, had great popularity in the 1990s, peaking in 1995–1997, then gradually declining in popularity through the early 21st century. The genre then had a resurgence in the winter of 2007. The Polish PWN dictionary defines the genre as a Polish variant of disco music, with simple melodies and often ribald lyrics.

It broadcasts some local TV series and a variety of imported comedy programming, including older sitcoms such as The Cosby Show and newer series such as Sex and the City.

Paramount International Networks (PIN) is the international sibling division of Paramount Global’s Paramount Media Networks subsidiary. The division oversees the production, broadcasting and promotion of key Paramount brands outside of the United States. These brands include Paramount Network, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, BET and Colors TV, as well as CBS-branded channels, which are co-owned with AMC Networks International. PIN also owned a 30% stake in the Rainbow S.p.A. animation studio in Italy until 2023, as well as a 13.01% stake in an Indian joint venture with domestic partner TV18, Viacom18.

Television in Poland was introduced on an experimental basis in 1937. It was state owned, and was interrupted by the Second World War in 1939. Television returned to Poland in 1952 and for several decades was controlled by the communist government. Colour television was introduced in Poland in 1971. Private television stations in Poland appeared around the time of the fall of communism, with PTV Echo becoming the first private station in Poland.

Niania is a Polish comedy television series directed by Jerzy Bogajewicz, which aired on TVN from 10 September 2005 to 24 October 2009. It was based on the American original The Nanny licensed by CBS, which aired in the 1990s.
