AXN is a pay television channel brand by Sony Pictures Television, which was first launched in September 1997 in Asia. [1] Local versions have since been launched in several parts of the world, including Europe, Asia, and Latin America, with some networks operated by others and licensing the AXN branding and graphical elements from SPT.

Contents

Funded through advertising or subscription fees, AXN primarily airs action genre and reality programming.

The network was formerly wholly owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment, but the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa channels were sold to KC Global Media in January 2020.

The channel was launched in Portugal on 14 April 2012 and in Spain on 7 May 2012 replacing Sony Entertainment Television. The channel replaced AXN Crime on 1 October 2013 in Hungary, Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Moldova.

Selected programs from AXN Philippines and SET were exclusively available in the Philippine feed of the channel.

AXN is a Portuguese pay television channel. It is the Portuguese version of the AXN network, owned by Sony. It was a Cabovisão exclusive in its beginnings, but now it is available in all operators and platforms. It's one of the most watched channels on pay-TV in Portugal, competing with FOX, SIC Notícias, Canal Panda, Disney Channel and Canal Hollywood.

Animax Portugal was the Portuguese version of Animax. The channel launched in April 2008 and was closed in May 2011. Originally, the channel broadcast anime only, but started airing live-action shows in 2009.

AXN Black is a channel operated by Sony Pictures Television International Networks Europe. Its programming is basically focused on action and crime television series and movies. The channel was first launched in Portugal, Angola and Mozambique on May 9, 2011 and replaced Animax. Central European version was launched on October 1, 2013 in Hungary, Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Moldova where has replaced AXN Sci Fi.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Animax India</span> Television channel

Animax India was an Indian television channel owned by Sony Pictures Networks India that launched in 2004. The channel primarily aired anime series and films dubbed in Hindi and, for a period, English, as well as with subtitles. It was the only channel in India to simulcast anime series on the same day as Japan. On 18 April 2017, Animax ceased broadcasting in India, with Sony Yay ultimately replacing the network.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Star (Disney+)</span> Content hub within the Disney+ streaming service in some international territories

Star is a content hub within the Disney+ streaming service that launched on February 23, 2021. The hub is available in a subset of countries where Disney+ is operated. In Latin America, a separate streaming service, Star+, was launched on August 31, 2021.
