Angeln was a container ship which was built at Zhoushan Shipyard in 2004. She capsized and sank off Saint Lucia in February 2010.
Angeln was built by Zhoushan Shipyard, China in 2004. She was 132.57 metres (434 ft 11 in) overall and 123.40 metres (404 ft 10 in) between perpendiculars, with a beam of 19.20 metres (63 ft 0 in). She had a draught of 7.22 metres (23 ft 8 in), and an air draught of 33.20 metres (108 ft 11 in) when in ballast or 31.90 metres (104 ft 8 in) when laden. Her depth was 9.20 metres (30 ft 2 in). Angeln was powered by a MAK 7 M 43 diesel engine of 6,300 kilowatts (8,400 hp) which could propel her at 17.5 knots (32.4 km/h). [1]
Angeln was owned by Brise Bereederungs GmbH & Co. KG, Hamburg, Germany. She was chartered by Bernuth Lines, Miami, Florida. [2] She was allocated IMO Number 9298600. MMSI Number 304618000 and used the callsign V2BU2. [3] In 2009, she was drydocked for examination by Germanischer Lloyd [4]
On 21 February 2010, Angeln departed Vieux Fort, Saint Lucia at about 21:00 local time (01:00 on 22 February UTC) bound for Barbados. She developed a list which rapidly increased. The order was given to abandon ship, which all 15 crew did successfully. Between 21:30 and 22:00, the ship capsized and sank. A salvage agreement was made with Titan Salvage under Lloyd's Open Form rules, but it was later decided that the ship was a constructive total loss. Titan were then awarded another contract to remove pollutants from the wreck. This work commenced on 4 March 2010, [4] and completed on 21 April. The wreck has been designated a protected site by the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority, who have issued a Wreck Removal Order. [5]

I.P. Suhr was a 1,649 GRT cargo ship that was built in 1926 by Ostseewerft AG, Stettin as Siegmund for German owners. After a sale in 1929 she was renamed Thielbek. A further sale in 1939 saw her renamed Ingrid Traber. She was seized by the Allies in May 1945, passed to the Ministry of War Transport (MoWT) and renamed Empire Condover. In 1946, she was passed to the Norwegian Government and renamed Fornes. She was sold into merchant service in 1948 and renamed I.P. Suhr, serving until December 1950 when she capsized and sank.
The RMS Mülheim was a German cargo ship that was built in Romania and launched in May 1999. It was wrecked on 22 March 2003 at Land's End, United Kingdom.
Francisco Morazan was a 1,442 GRT cargo ship that was built in 1922 as Arcadia by Deutsche Werft, Hamburg, for German owners. She was sold in 1934 and renamed Elbing. She was seized by the Allies in the River Elbe, Germany in May 1945, passed to the United Kingdom's Ministry of War Transport and renamed Empire Congress. In 1946, she was allocated to the Norwegian Government and renamed Brunes.
TIV MPI Adventure is a 14,739 GT wind turbine installation vessel that was built in 2010 by Cosco Nantong Shipyard, China.
Nyon was a 5,364 GRT cargo ship that was built in 1952. She ran aground in 1958, and was cut in two in order to salvage her. The stern section was salvaged and a new bow section built and fitted in 1959. She served until 1962 when she was involved in a collision with another ship and sank.
MV Baltic Ace was a Bahamian-flagged car carrier, that sank in the North Sea on 5 December 2012 after a collision with the Cyprus-registered container ship Corvus J. Built by Stocznia Gdynia in Poland, the ship had been in service since 2007.
SS Oceana was a P&O passenger liner and cargo vessel, launched in 1887 by Harland and Wolff of Belfast and completed in 1888. Originally assigned to carry passengers and mail between London and Australia, she was later assigned to routes between London and British India. On 16 March 1912 the ship collided in the Strait of Dover with the Pisagua, a 2,850 GRT German-registered four-masted steel-hulled barque. As a result Oceana sank off Beachy Head on the East Sussex coast, with the loss of 17 lives.
The Cemfjord was a Cyprus-registered cargo ship which foundered in the Pentland Firth off the north-east coast of Scotland on 2 January 2015. Built as the general cargo ship Margareta in 1984, she was converted to carry cement in 1998 and was en route from Aalborg, Denmark to Runcorn, Cheshire, United Kingdom when she capsized in bad weather and sank in 82 metres (270 ft) of water. All eight crew were presumed lost. No bodies were recovered, and the ship has been left as a sea grave.
RFA Darkdale was a Dale-class fleet tanker of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA), launched on 23 July 1940 as Empire Oil, completed in November 1940 and transferred to the RFA as Darkdale. She was sunk during the Second World War on 22 October 1941 by the German submarine U-68. Her wreck in James Bay off Jamestown, Saint Helena continued to leak oil, posing a potential environmental threat to the coastal waters of Saint Helena, until Ministry of Defence divers drained the ship's tanks in 2015.
Temple Hall was a cargo motor ship that was built in Scotland in 1954. She was later renamed Pantelis in 1969 and then again as Telamon in 1977.
Oriana was a 295 GRT tug which was built in 1945 as Empire Frieda by Ferguson Brothers Ltd., Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire, United Kingdom for the Ministry of War Transport (MoWT). Ownership was transferred to the Ministry of Transport in 1946 and the Admiralty in 1947, when she was renamed Oriana. She struck a mine and sank in the River Colne, Essex on 19 January 1948 with the loss of all on deck.
Volochaevsk was a Hansa A Type cargo ship which was built as Weserwald in 1943 by Deutsche Werft, Hamburg, Germany for Norddeutsche Lloyd, Hamburg. She was seized as a prize of war in 1945, passing to the Ministry of War Transport and renamed Empire Galveston. She was allocated to the Soviet Union in 1946 and was renamed Volochaevsk. She served until 1973, when she was scrapped.
SS Santa Fé was a German refrigerated cargo steamship. She is now a Black Sea shipwreck and part of her cargo is of interest to marine archaeologists.
V 303 Tannenberg was a German fishing trawler that was requisitioned in the Second World War by the Kriegsmarine for use as a vorpostenboot. She was returned to her owners post war. In 1958, she was re-engined and converted to a cargo ship. In 1970 she was sold to Greece and renamed Panaghia. She was sold to Panama in 1975 and was renamed Nikos then Chantal. She was wrecked in 1978.
MV Thorco Cloud was a general cargo ship owned by Thorco Projects that sank in the Singapore Strait in December 2015 after a collision with the chemical tanker MV Stolt Commitment. The collision resulted in six casualties from a total crew of 12. The collision caused the ship to split into two parts, which sank approximately 1.85 kilometres (1.15 mi) apart at a depth of 70 metres (230 ft) in the traffic separation scheme of the Singapore Strait, one of the world's busiest shipping lanes. The wreck was removed in 2019.
Bris was a German Vorpostenboot that was built in 1941 as the minesweeper PT 25 for the Soviet Navy. She was seized by Germany before delivery and was used as a fishing trawler before being requisitioned by the Kriegsmarine, serving as V 315 Bris. She was lost in a collision in March 1945.
