Madeline Folgmann (born 16 January 1997) is a German taekwondo athlete and European bronze medalist.
Madeline Folgmann began practising taekwondo at the age of five and has been competing for the German national team since 2014. [2] In 2014, she took part in the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing in the weight class up to 55 kg. She reached the round of 16, but lost to her opponent Tijana Bogdanović by 12 to 16 points. [3] [4] At national level, she became German champion three times, runner-up three times and bronze medallist twice in the cadet and junior categories. [5]
At the U21 European Championships in Sofia, Folgmann won the gold medal in the weight class up to 53 kg. [6] In the same year, she achieved a bronze medal in the same weight class at the World University Games (then: Summer Universiade). [7] In 2018, she won another bronze medal at the European Senior Championships in Kazan. [5]
In 2024, Folgmann achieved a 5th place at the European Championships in Belgrade. [8] At the 2024 European Universities Games in Debrecen-Miskolc, she was defeated in the final by Spanish athlete Alma Pérez Parrado and thus became runner-up in the weight class up to 53 kg. [9]
Folgmann began studying Sports Science at the German Sport University Cologne in 2016. She completed her bachelor's degree in 2021 and then continued her studies with a master's programme. [10]
Bat-El Gatterer is an Israeli Olympic taekwondo athlete. She was the women's 2010 European featherweight champion.
Jade Louise Jones is a Welsh taekwondo athlete. She is the 2012 and 2016 Olympic gold medallist in the women's 57 kg category, and the 2019 World champion, 2016, 2018 and 2021 European champion and both 2015 European Games and 2023 European Games champion at the same weight, the only double gold medalist at her weight in the history of those Games. In 2012, she won Britain's first taekwondo Olympic gold medal. Jones was at the time the reigning Youth Olympic champion in the girls' 55 kg category, winning gold for Great Britain in 2010.
Kimia Alizadeh Zonouzi is an Iranian-born Bulgarian taekwondo athlete, representing Bulgaria. Alizadeh won a bronze medal in the taekwondo 57 kg weight class at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro by defeating Swedish athlete Nikita Glasnović. This made her the first Iranian woman to win a medal at a Summer Olympics. She also won a gold medal in the women's 63-kg class at the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games. She beat London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016 gold medallist Jade Jones at the 2015 World Championship to win a bronze medal. She also won a silver medal two years later at the 2017 World Taekwondo Championships.
Lauren Williams is a Welsh taekwondo athlete who represents Great Britain.
Nahid Kiani Chandeh is an Iranian taekwondo athlete. She is the first Iranian woman to win a silver medal at the Olympics in the 2024 Summer Olympics, Taekwondo Women's 57 kg event, also she won the gold medal in the women's bantamweight event at the 2023 World Taekwondo Championships.
Avishag Semberg is an Israeli Olympic taekwondo athlete. She is an Olympic bronze medalist for Israel at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the women's 49 kg competition. She won Israel's all-time tenth Olympic medal, and is the youngest Israeli to receive an Olympic medal, at the age of 19. Semberg represented Israel at the 2024 Paris Olympics in the women's taekwondo -49 kg category. Saudi athlete Dunya Abutaleb defeated Semberg in the first round.
