The Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation Limited (MPRDC) is an Undertaking of Government of the state of Madhya Pradesh, India, responsible for management of a network of over 22,000 km of National Highways, State Highways and Major District Roads in Madhya Pradesh. [4] Madhya Pradesh State has a good road network. There are 20 National Highways with total length of 4,000 km and many State Highways with total length of 9,000 km. Shri. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh is the Chairman, while Shri Asheesh Singh, IAS is Managing Director of MPRDC.

History

Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation Ltd. (MPRDC) was incorporated as a wholly government owned company under The Companies Act 1956 ;as amended by The Companies (Amendment) Act 2002 and The Companies (Second Amendment) Act 2002, by the Government with an authorized share capital of 20 Crore, paid up share capital of 10 Crore. The Company has received a Certificate of Incorporation and Certificate of Commencement of Business from the Registrar of Companies, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh in July 2014 and August 11, 2004 respectively. Presently paid up share capital of Company is 20 Crore. [5] It is responsible for the development, maintenance and management of State Highways, Major District Roads and Expressway in the State of Madhya Pradesh, totaling over 14,004 km (8,702 mi) in length. [6] The MPRDC is also responsible of the toll collection on several State highways. [7]

Role of MPRDC in Infrastructure Development of Madhya Pradesh

The Economy of Madhya Pradesh was considered as one of the most "sick" economies of India till 2003, after 2005 it registered consistent growth rate and it reached India's top-most state in terms of GDP growth, with a rate of 12% GDP for annual year 2011–12. Madhya Pradesh received an award from President Pranab Mukherjee in January 2013 for improving its tourism, medical and infrastructural growth. GDP growth is 19.7% for 2017-18. After incorporation of MPRDC, condition of Road infrastructure has improved in the State. [ citation needed ]

Officials from other States are coming to study its work pattern and exchange notes with its officers. Officers from around a dozen States have visited the Corporation's HQ and its field offices. [8] It has received Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India & ADB 2017 Best Performing Project Award for the Madhya Pradesh District Connectivity Sector Project.

First to launch e-tolling

In selected highways, the corporation has started e-tolling. The regular users of the road have been given e-tokens. Due to this they don't have to stop at toll booths, thus saving both time and fuel. Vehicle having e-tag is identified by the scanner installed at the toll booth and the toll booth barrier opens automatically and the vehicles passes without stopping. [9]

Accident response system

Implementation of Accident response system (ARS) on PPP mode is probably the first in world. Statewide implementation of ARS will be the first in country. ARS will address safety requirements in the larger perspective. Technical assistance through Asian Development Bank for capacity building in road safety. Accident Response System & Traffic Management Centre in Madhya Pradesh, including operation and maintenance, for five years with an estimated cost of 12.50 crore have been proposed. A Road Safety Cell is created in MPRDC. The MPRDC has engaged an agency for ARS on annuity basis. ARS includes centralised call centre, GIS based automatic vehicle tracking system (AVTS), computer aided dispatch system, traffic management centre. [9]

MPRDC has implemented projects using different models such as BOT, OMT, EPC, etc. Projects has been funded by State Government, Central Government, Asian Development Bank, New Development Bank, etc. . [6]

There are 184 projects in progress with estimated cost of 164.18 Billion covering total road length of 5,149 km. [6]

Bhopal-Indore Expressway

MPRDC has created first expressway in Madhya Pradesh namely Bhopal-Indore Expressway. Its one of the most important road in Madhya Pradesh and it act as lifeline of Madhya Pradesh. Toll Plazas are also present on the road. Further, technical Evaluation of Consultancy Services for preparation of Detailed Project Report of Access Control 6 Lane Bhopal- Indore Green Field Expressway-157 km and Green Field West-Southern Bhopal Bypass-37 km in the State of Madhya Pradesh is in progress. Narmada Expressway and Chambal Expressway

MPRDC has invited consultancy services for the preparation of pre-feasibility report for Narmada Expressway and Chambal Expressway. [11] Narmada Expressway is a proposed eight-lane expressway in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The proposed highway will connect the historic towns of Amarkantak in the eastern end of Madhya Pradesh via Dindori, Shahpura, Jabalpur, Hoshangabad, Barwaha and Alirajpur in the western end of Madhya Pradesh alongside of Narmada River.[1] The highways measures 1,300 km will connected Gujarat with Chhattisgarh. Later, this road will connect Alirajpur to Ahmedabad. [12] [13] [14] Chambal Expressway is a proposed eight-lane expressway in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The proposed highway will connect the historic towns of Sheopur in Madhya Pradesh to Etawah in Uttar Pradesh alongside of Chambal River which will cover Morena, Shampur, Ater and Gohad .[1] The highways measures 185 km will connected Madhya Pradesh with Uttar Pradesh. The National Highways Authority of India or NHAI is an autonomous agency of the Government of India, set up in 1995 and is responsible for management of a road network of over 50,000 km of National Highways out of 1,32,499 km in India. It is a nodal agency of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). NHAI has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for satellite mapping of highways.

Mandideep is a town with municipality in Goharganj sub-district of Raisen district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Mandideep is 23 km from Bhopal and is basically an Industrial township which came into existence in late 1970s. The Mandideep Municipality has population of 59,654 of which 32,390 are males while 27,264 are females as per report released by 2011 Census of India. Literacy rate of Mandideep city is 83.76 % higher than state average of 69.32 %. In Mandideep, Male literacy is around 89.33 % while female literacy rate is 77.04. Mandideep's annual productions are worth some Rs. 80,000 crore in 2021, making it one of the most productive economic centers in India.

Nitin Jairam Gadkari is an Indian politician from Maharashtra who is the current Minister for Road Transport & Highways in the Government of India. He is also the longest serving Minister for Road Transport & Highways currently running his tenure for over nine years. Gadkari earlier served as the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from 2009 to 2013. He is also known for his work as the Public Works Department Minister of the State of Maharashtra, where, under his leadership, a series of roads, highways and flyovers across the state were constructed.

Expressways are the highest class of roads in India. As of July 2023, India has a total length of 5,145 km (3,197 mi) of expressways. These are controlled-access highways where entrance and exits are controlled by the use of cloverleaf or trumpet or grade separated interchanges that are incorporated into the design of the expressway and designed for maximum speed of 120 km/h, whereas National highways are flyover access or tolled, where entrance and exit is through the side of the flyover, at each intersection of highway with road, flyovers are provided to bypass the city/town/village traffic and these highways are designed for speed of 100 km/h. Some roads are not access-controlled expressways but are still named expressways, such as the Biju Expressway, these are actually state highways that are not declared by the central government as an Expressway, hence not an Expressway or National Highway.

Delhi–Meerut Expressway or National Expressway 3 is India's widest 96 km long controlled-access expressway, connecting Delhi with Meerut via Dasna in Ghaziabad in India. The 8 lanes old stretch of National Highway 9 (NH-9) up to Dasna is widened to 14 lanes. The fourth phase of the expressway is built on a new alignment from Dasna to Meerut – a six-lane stretch joining Meerut bypass. The 28 km (17 mi) stretch between Nizamuddin Bridge and Dasna is one of the most congested areas in the NCR. The total project cost is estimated to be between ₹8,000–10,000 crores.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Purvanchal Expressway</span> Indian expressway connecting Lucknow and Ghazipur

Purvanchal Expressway is a 340.8 km long, 6-lane wide access-controlled expressway in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. The expressway connects Chand Saray village near Gosainganj in Lucknow district with Haydaria village on NH-31 in Ghazipur district. It is developed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). The Purvanchal Expressway has a 3.2 km long airstrip at Akhalkiri Karwat village near Kurebhar in Sultanpur district for emergency landing of aircraft. The construction work was started by the UPEIDA on 10 October 2018 and was inaugurated and opened to the public on 16 November 2021.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bharatmala</span> Indian highway and expressway construction project

The Bharatmala Pariyojna is an ongoing project that will interconnect 550 District Headquarters through a minimum 4-lane highway by raising the number of corridors to 50 and move 80% freight traffic to National Highways by interconnecting 24 logistics parks, 66 inter-corridors (IC) of total 8,000 km (5,000 mi), 116 feeder routes (FR) of total 7,500 km (4,700 mi) and 7 north east Multi-Modal waterway ports. The project also includes development of tunnels, bridges, elevated corridors, flyovers, overpass, interchanges, bypasses, ring roads etc. to provide shortest, jam free & optimized connectivity to multiple places, it is a centrally-sponsored and funded Road and Highways project of the Government of India. This ambitious umbrella programme will subsume all existing Highway Projects including the flagship National Highways Development Project (NHDP), launched by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government in 1998. Bharatmala is mainly focused on connecting remote areas and satellite cities of megacities such as Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad etc. The total investment for 83,677 km (51,994 mi) committed new highways is estimated at 10.63 lakh crore (US$130 billion), making it the single largest outlay for a government road construction scheme. The project will build highways from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and then cover the entire string of Himalayan territories - Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand - and then portions of borders of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar alongside Terai, and move to West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and right up to the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur and Mizoram. Special emphasis will be given on providing connectivity to far-flung border and rural areas including the tribal and backward areas.

The Gambhir River is a river of Madhya Pradesh, India. It originates from Janapav near Mhow. It flows from south to north until its joins the Shipra River in Ujjain city, which later joins the Chambal River at the MP-Rajasthan boundary in Mandsaur district.

Narmada Expressway is a proposed eight-lane expressway in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh State Highway 27 runs in Jhalawar in Rajasthan, Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh and Malkapur in Maharashtra it cover 386.60 Km.

The Delhi–Mumbai Expressway is a 1,350 km long, 8-lane wide under-construction access-controlled expressway connecting India's national capital New Delhi to its financial capital Mumbai. The foundation stone for the project was laid by union minister Nitin Gadkari in the presence of Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley on 8 March 2019. The total project value including the land acquisition cost is around ₹1,00,000 crores. An additional 31 km long spur will also be constructed by the NHAI from Noida International Airport in Jewar to Sector-65, Faridabad on this expressway.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Vijayawada–Hyderabad Expressway</span> Indian expressway

Vijayawada–Hyderabad Expressway is a 247 km long, 4/6 lane wide tolled expressway that connects Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh with Hyderabad in Telangana. It was opened for public in October 2012. The project was undertaken by concessionaire GMR Hyderabad Vijayawada Expressways Private Limited, a subsidiary of GMR Group on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis. It is one of the busiest expressways in India and is a part of National Highway 65, which connects Machilipatnam to Pune.

Dilip Buildcon Limited (DBL) is an Indian construction and infrastructure development company based in Bhopal. Hyderabad–Indore Expressway is an approved upcoming expressway in India. It will connect Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana to Indore in Madhya Pradesh. The total length of the expressway is 713 kilometres (443 mi) and it is expected to be completed by March 2025

Atal Progress-Way, also known as Chambal Expressway, is an approved 404 km (251 mi) long, six-lane access-controlled greenfield expressway, which will connect the city of Kota in Rajasthan with the city of Etawah in Uttar Pradesh, through the famous city of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. It will pass through three states–Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The expressway is a part of Bharatmala Pariyojana. The government's aim is to develop the economically backward regions of Chambal division and Gwalior division of Madhya Pradesh through the expressway. The expressway will reduce both travel time and distance, from 10-11 hours at present, to only 6-7 hours, and from 490 km (300 mi) to 404 km (251 mi). It will be built at a cost of approximately ₹ 23,700 crore, which was earlier slated at ₹ 20,000 crore. The expressway has been named as Atal Progress-Way after the former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and also because he was born in Gwalior, nearby which the expressway will pass.
