Mahendran is an Indian actor who works in Tamil and Telugu language films. He started acting at the age of 3 and has appeared in over 100 films in six languages as a child actor, a record in India. [1] [2] He is a recipient of two Nandi Awards and two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.

In 2013 he played the lead in Vizha , which was his breakthrough as an adult actor. [3] [4] [5] [6]

Career

Mahendran made his debut with K. S. Ravikumar's Nattamai (1994). [7] He twice won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Child Artist, for Thaikulame Thaikulame (1995) and Kumbakonam Gopalu (1998). [8] He also twice won the Nandi Award for Best Child Actor, for Devi (1999) and Little Hearts (2001). [9] [10] He also appeared on the Sun TV dance show Masthana Masthana as a participant in 2009.[ citation needed ]

The actor made his breakthrough as a hero when he starred alongside Malavika Menon in Vizha (2013), directed by Barathi Balakumaran. [11] [12]

The film is based on the award-winning short film Uthiri, and portrays the love story of Mahendran's character Sundaram, who plays the thappu instrument at funerals, and Rakkamma (Malavika), an oppari singer. [13] The film opened to positive reviews in December 2013. [14] His first Telugu film, First Love opposite Amrita Rao released on the same day, with a low key release. [15]

Natpukkaga is a 1998 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by K. S. Ravikumar, starring R. Sarathkumar in dual roles as a father and son, Simran, Vijayakumar and Sujatha. It became a blockbuster upon release. The film won two Filmfare Awards South and Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, both ceremonies conferring Best Film and Best Actor (Sarathkumar). It was remade in Telugu by Ravikumar as Sneham Kosam (1999) and in Kannada as Diggajaru (2001). It is Sarath Kumar's 75th film.

Nattamai is a 1994 Indian Tamil-language drama film written and directed by K. S. Ravikumar. It starred Sarathkumar, Meena and Khushbu. The film was released on 2 November 1994, during Diwali, and completed a 175-day run at the box office. It is considered to be one of the most popular Tamil films of the 1990s and in general. It became a trendsetter for many films in later years. The Goundamani-Senthil comic duo was one of the most popular aspects of the film.

The film stars Pandiarajan, Urvashi and Vinaya Prasad while Vadivelu, R. Sundarrajan appear in supporting roles. It was released on 22 September 1995, and did well at the box office. The film was remade in Telugu as Intlo Illalu Vantintlo Priyuralu, in Hindi as Gharwali Baharwali and in Kannada as Naanu Nanna Hendthiru. Master Mahendran won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Child Artist.

<i>Vizha</i> 2013 Indian film

Vizha (transl. Festival) is a 2013 Tamil-language film directed by Barathi Balakumaran. It stars Mahendran and Malavika Menon. The film, based on the award-winning short film Uthiri, portrays the love story of Sundaram (Mahendran), who plays the thappu instrument at death functions, and Rakkamma (Malavika), an oppari singer. Extensively shot in Madurai and several scenes were shots on Ayyanputhur, Tiruchirappalli district, it has music composed by James Vasanthan, while U. K. Senthilkumar worked as the cinematographer and Praveen K. L.-N. B. Srikanth edited the film. Vizha was produced by Rama Narayanan and Sunir Kheterpal for Sri Thenandal Films, Azure Entertainment and JV Media Dreams. It released on 27 December 2013.

Yaar Kannan is an Indian film director and screenwriter who has worked on Tamil films. He made his debut with the 1985 with the horror film Yaar? and regularly collaborated with Ramarajan in the late 1980s.
