Maja Francis (Maja Francis Alderin) [1] is a Swedish singer best known for her work with First Aid Kit and her closing track on the Netflix series Love & Anarchy .

Biography

Francis grew up in Ängelholm, where her father owned a record store. [2] She is the granddaughter of Scandinavian singer Thory Bernhards. Maja Francis attended Mega Musik Gymnasieskola in Helsingborg. [3]

Career

Francis debuted the single "Last Days of Dancing" in 2015. [4] On August 14, 2015, she released the single "Space Invades My Mind" with Veronica Maggio. On the same day, Francis played on Way Out West's club spinoff Stay Out West, where Maggio visited to perform the single with Francis. [5] In January 2016, her debut EP Come Companion was released. [6] [7] Then in 2017 she appeared with First Aid Kit guesting on their Who By Fire tribute concert to Leonard Cohen where she sang Famous Blue Raincoat and joined in with the So Long, Marianne finale. [8] [9]

She took a break after her pair of 2018 EPs, Cry Baby parts 1 and 2, saying later that "My relationship with music was kind of toxic after releasing my Cry Baby EPs in 2018… so I needed a break." [10] She returned in December 2019, again with First Aid Kit, singing It Must Have Been Love as their tribute to Marie Fredriksson. [11] She released her cover of Kate Bush's This Woman's Work in July 2020. In the same year, she recorded her single 'Anxious Angel' as the final track of the Netflix series Kärlek & Anarki ( Love & Anarchy ). [12] The CD from First Aid Kit's Who By Fire tribute was released in 2021. [8] Also in 2021, she appeared on a special edition of Jills veranda, [13] and later in the year released her first album A Pink Soft Mess. [14] [15] [16]

For New Year 2023, Francis performed Running Up That Hill on SVT's Årets quiz (This Year's Quiz). [17] Later in the year she performed Heart of Gold with Jill Johnson on På spåret. [18] Her 2024 collaborations include Anna Ternheim with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra at Berwald Hall. [19] In April 2024 she performed SOS at SVT's En fest för ABBA held at Cirkus (Stockholm). [20]

Francis has a record contract with Universal Music Group under its Sweden Music label [21] [22] and is listed in Sweden by RMV Grammafon. [23]

She performed in the Melodifestivalen 1998 contest, winning with the song "Kärleken är", and represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 1998 with that song, which finished 10th with 53 points. In 2003 she entered Melodifestivalen for the second time with "Crazy in Love", which finished fourth in the final. She also hosted the final of Melodifestivalen 2005. Johnson is today one of the most successful artists in Sweden, with several Gold and Platinum records and since 2014 has hosted her own Swedish TV-show from Nashville, Jills veranda.

Molly My Marianne Sandén, also known by her middle name My Marianne, is a Swedish pop singer and voice actress. As a teenager, she represented Sweden in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2006 and participated in Melodifestivalen in 2009, 2012, and 2016. Her sisters Frida and Mimmi are also singers. In 2018, Sandén released her third studio album, Större. Her fourth studio album was released in early 2019, called Det bästa kanske inte hänt än.

First Aid Kit is a Swedish folk duo consisting of the sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg, born in 1990 and 1993 respectively. When performing live, they are accompanied by a drummer, a guitarist and a keyboard player. First Aid Kit started to become internationally known in 2008 with their YouTube uploaded cover of the Fleet Foxes' song "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song". In 2012 Rolling Stone magazine had their song "Emmylou" as 10th on their "Single of the Year" list. First Aid Kit has released five albums, four EPs and several singles. In 2015, they were nominated for a Brit Award as one of the five best international groups. They were nominated again in 2019 and 2023.
