Malaika Vaz (born 13 April 1999) is an Indian National Geographic explorer, television presenter, and wildlife filmmaker. She is the youngest person to reach the Arctic and the Antarctic with Students on Ice foundation. [1] [2]
In 2018, she presented the TV series On The Brink [3] for Discovery Channel and Animal Planet, that follows her journey exploring the many endangered species across India together with the stories of researchers and scientists involved in protecting them. She is currently working on an investigative documentary on the illegal trafficking of Manta Rays across Southeast Asia. As a National Geographic Explorer Malaika produced and presented a 3 part series on human-wildlife coexistence titled Living With Predators. [4] [5]
Malaika Vaz was born to Marusha Vaz and Mac Vaz, and has two younger brothers, Mikhail and Marc. [6] As a windsurfer, sailor and Professional Association of Diving Instructors Divemaster, she has developed a strong connection to the ocean and has witnessed the effects of unsustainable tourism on the Marine ecosystem. [7] This inspired her to campaign for ecological protection and work towards conserving India's natural resources through initiatives such as the Leave No Trace campaign, [8] that reduced plastic waste drastically at Asia's largest music festival Sunburn held at Candolim, Goa, India. She is also an environmental activist.
Malaika was educated at Sharada Mandir School in Goa, and then represented India, along with students from 92 other countries, at UWC Mahindra College.
Through her non-profit organization Kriyā (meaning "deed" or "action" in Sanskrit), Malaika works to empower women; victims of sexual violence and disadvantaged teenage girls through adventure sport and outdoor education. [9] [10] [11] Under Malaika's guidance, the Kriyā Ambassadors summited Stok Kangri and Lungser Kangri in the Indian Himalayas to raise money for the Sherpa communities in the Khumbu Valley who were devastated by the April 2015 Nepal earthquake. Mário João Carlos do Rosário de Brito Miranda, popularly known as Mario Miranda or Mario de Miranda, was an Indian cartoonist and painter based in Loutolim, Goa. He had been a regular with The Times of India and other newspapers in Mumbai, including The Economic Times, though he got his popularity with his works published in The Illustrated Weekly of India. He was awarded India's second highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan (posthumously) in 2012.
Luís Remo de Maria Bernardo Fernandes is a singer and musician from India with naturalized Portuguese citizenship. Known as a pioneer of Indian pop music, he performs pop/rock/Indian fusion and is also a film playback singer. Maria Aurora Couto was an Indian writer and educator best known for her book Goa: A Daughter's Story and for promoting literature and ideas within Goa and beyond. Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary and Mollem National Park is a 240 square kilometres (93 sq mi) protected area located in the Western Ghats of West India, in Dharbandora taluk, Goa State, along the eastern border with Karnataka. The area is situated near the town of Molem, 57 kilometres (35 mi) east of Panaji, the state capital of Goa. National Highway 4A divides it into two parts and the Mormugao - Londa railway line passes through the area. It is located between 15°15"30' to 15°29"30' N and 74°10"15' to 74°20"15' E. It contains several important temples dating to the Kadambas of Goa, and home to waterfalls, such as Dudhsagar Falls and Tambdi Falls. The parkland is also home to a community of nomadic buffalo herders known as the Dhangar.

The Museum of Goa (MOG), is a privately owned contemporary art gallery in Pilerne Industrial Estate, near Calangute, Goa, India. Founded in 2015, it is 1,500 square meters in size. It has no permanent collection. It was founded by Goan artist Subodh Kerkar. The museum organises various exhibitions, art courses, plays, residencies, workshops, book readings, lectures, screenings and talks.
Waghoba: Provider, Destroyer, Deity is a 2016 documentary short film about Indian tigers and their relationships with human society. It is directed and written by Malaika Vaz and produced by Sandesh Kadur. The film helped win the National Geographic ROAD Talent award for Wildscreen Festival.
Carnival in Goa, also called "Carnaval", "Intruz", "Entrado", or (colloquially) "Viva Carnival" refers to the festival of carnival, in the Indian state of Goa. Though significantly smaller than the well-known Rio Carnival or the Portuguese Carnival of Madeira, the Goa Carnival is the largest in India and one of the few traditional celebrations of the Western Christian holiday in Asia. The current version of the Goa Carnival was modelled after the Rio Carnival by a local musician named Timoteo Fernandes and imposed in 1965 to attract tourists. It has since turned into a major tourist attraction for the small state.

Poee or poie is a leavened bread baked by the traditional bakers called poders in Goa, India, where it is a staple food. It has characteristics similar to a pita bread, notably that it is round, soft, and has a pocket. Coconut palm wine or toddy was traditionally used for the fermenting process but yeast is now used in commercial production. The bread is made from half-maida and half-whole wheat flour.

John Claro Fernandes, known professionally as John Claro, is an Indian writer, theatre director, playwright, and actor. Throughout his extensive career, he has made crucial contributions to the development and advancement of Goan tiatr. His noted research on the history of tiatr led to the discovery that the inaugural tiatr production, titled Italian Bhurgo, took place on 17 April 1892, at the New Alfred Theatre in Bombay, presently occupied by the Police Commissioner headquarters.
Minervarya gomantaki, previously in the genus Fejervarya, is a species of frog, endemic to the Western Ghats region of India. It is also known as the Goan cricket frog or the Gomantak white lipped cricket Frog.
