Mamaru is the fourteenth studio album by American singer and drag queen RuPaul, released on January 7, 2022. [2] The album was released on the same day as the premiere of the fourteenth season of RuPaul's Drag Race . [3] The song "Catwalk" was used during the runway presentations segment of the show.
"Blame It on the Edit" was released as the first single on October 8, 2021, preceding the album's release. [4] [5] A music video was released alongside the single, directed by Weston Allen. [6] On April 1, 2023, a remix featuring the top four finalists from RuPaul's Drag Race season 15 was released.
On November 5, 2021, "Just What They Want" was released as the second single from the album with a lyric video. [7]
On December 2, 2021, the third single, "Catwalk" was released from the album. On April 9, 2022, a remix featuring the top five finalists from RuPaul's Drag Race season 14 was released.
Stephen Daw of Billboard wrote, "Throughout Mamaru, the 'Supermodel' star delivers what fans have come to expect from her — fun, danceable singles that are made for you to strut to. Some songs like 'Blame It on the Edit', 'Queendom' and 'Pretty Pretty Gang Gang' see Ru leaning into a slightly edgier, updated hip-hop sound, but others like 'Catwalk' see the star capitalizing on the pop that made her a superstar." [8] Ian Fredrickson of The Daily Californian gave the album a 3.5 out of 5, and wrote that "Mamaru shows audiences young and old that RuPaul is still in her prime nearly half a century into her career. Incredibly fun to listen to — with some tracks definitively worth putting on your hype playlist — the album is impressive even with its occasional blunders." [9]
Reanna Cruz of NPR wrote that the album is the "final death knell of bubblegum hyperpop. Throughout the thirty-minute record, Ru somehow manages to commodify and repackage the sounds of almost every single musician who has made an impact on queer internet communities over the past several years, including but not limited to Charli XCX, Shygirl, Kim Petras, Namasenda and the late Sophie, who is rolling in her grave at the familiar fruit production on a song named 'Pretty Pretty Gang Gang'." The album won the 2022 WOWIE Stream Queen Award for Best Album, presented at RuPaul's DragCon LA. [10]

Charlotte Emma Aitchison, known professionally as Charli XCX, is an English singer and songwriter. Born in Cambridge and raised in Start Hill, Essex, she began posting songs on Myspace in 2008, which led to her discovery by a promoter who invited her to perform at warehouse raves. In 2010, she signed a recording contract with Asylum Records, releasing a series of singles and mixtapes throughout 2011 and 2012.
Joey Santolini, better known by his stage name Tatianna, is an American drag queen, musician, and reality television personality from Washington, D.C. He is best known for competing on the second season of RuPaul's Drag Race and later the second season of RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars. She released her debut album, T1, in 2018.
English singer Charli XCX has released five studio albums, four mixtapes, three extended plays, one live album, one soundtrack album, two DJ mixes, 48 singles, and 13 promotional singles. In 2007, XCX began recording her debut album on a loan granted by her parents. Titled 14, after her age at the time, it received only a restricted public release. She is best known from the nightlife scene and, in 2017, as the runner-up on the ninth season of RuPaul's Drag Race. In 2018, Peppermint made her debut in The Go-Go's-inspired musical Head Over Heels as Pythio, becoming Broadway's first out trans woman to originate a lead role.

Brian Michael Firkus, better known by the stage name Trixie Mattel, is an American drag queen, television personality, and singer-songwriter originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is known for her exaggerated, high-camp style and blend of comedy and acoustic pop. In 2015 she competed on the seventh season of the drag competition RuPaul's Drag Race, where she finished in 6th place. In 2018, she went on to win the third season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars.

Ryan A. Silky Nutmeg Ganache is an American drag performer from Chicago, Illinois, who came to international attention in 2019 when she competed on the eleventh season of RuPaul's Drag Race finishing in third place, and later competed on the sixth season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars in 2021. She has also been involved in numerous Drag Race spin-offs, including RuPaul's Drag Race: Vegas Revue (2020) and RuPaul's Secret Celebrity Drag Race (2022). She also competed in the first Canadian-based international All Stars spin-off series, Canada's Drag Race: Canada vs. the World in 2022, finishing as a runner-up.
