RuPaul Charles is an American drag queen, actor, model, singer, songwriter, and television personality. He is considered to be the most famous drag queen ever, and in 2017 he was included in the annual Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world. [1] [2]
Since 2009, he has produced and hosted the reality competition series RuPaul's Drag Race and its various spin-offs, such as All Stars, Untucked and Drag Race UK . RuPaul's Drag Race was met with critical acclaim and was praised for "creat[ing] an entertainingly voyeuristic glimpse into the performance art world of drag queens". [3] [4] It has earned Charles fourteen Primetime Emmy Awards, making him the person with the most wins in the category of Outstanding Host for a Competition Program and the most-awarded person of color in the show's history, [5] one Critics' Choice Television Award, and five Producers Guild of America Awards. RuPaul's Drag Race UK was nominated for three BAFTA TV Awards, while Canada's Drag Race won several Canadian Screen Awards, with Charles being the recipient of two Best Reality/Competition Series awards as one of the executive producers of the show. In 2022, he won the Tony Award for Best Musical for producing the Broadway show A Strange Loop .
Charles had already achieved international fame as a drag queen with the release of his single "Supermodel (You Better Work)", from the album Supermodel of the World (1993), for which he received two Billboard Music Awards and an MTV Video Music Award nomination. He was also honored with the GLAAD Vito Russo Award in 1999, presented to an openly LGBT media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality for the LGBT community, and in 2018 he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions to the television industry, making him the first drag queen to be given such an award.

The American Music Show is a weekly public access variety television program, produced from 1981 to 2005 in Atlanta, Georgia by Dick Richards, James Bond, Potsy Duncan, and Bud "Beebo" Lowry. It aired on People TV and featured drag and musical performances, parodic sketch comedy, interviews, and reports from around Atlanta. The show became very influential in Atlanta's queer subculture, and due to its longevity, it has been described as "one of the most thorough archives of queer Atlanta history." RuPaul also made frequent appearances on the show.
RuPaul's Drag Race UK is a British reality competition television series based on the American television series of the same name. The television series, a collaboration between the BBC and World of Wonder, premiered on 3 October 2019. The show is the fourth installment of the Drag Race franchise, and the second fronted by RuPaul. The show documents RuPaul and a panel of judges' search for "the United Kingdom's next drag superstar", the first series title dubbed "UK's First Drag Superstar". RuPaul plays several roles on the show including host, mentor and head judge for the series, as the contestants are given different challenges to participate in each week. The show also employs a panel of judges: RuPaul, Michelle Visage, Alan Carr, and Graham Norton.
RuPaul's DragCon NYC is an annual fan convention and expo of drag culture held in New York City, which debuted in September 2017. It is based on the successful RuPaul's DragCon LA which was launched in Los Angeles in 2015 billed as a “convention that celebrates ‘the art of drag, queer culture and self-expression for all’”. The NYC event is considered the "world's largest celebration of drag culture" with 100,000 attendees. The event is an outgrowth of the internationally successful RuPaul's Drag Race, which generated Drag Race Thailand, RuPaul's Drag Race UK, RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, and Chile's The Switch Drag Race. RuPaul's Drag Race and the two DragCons come from World of Wonder Entertainment (WOW), a production company based in Los Angeles. The first RuPaul's DragCon NYC was held in 2018 at the Javits Center, with over 40,000 attendees at the two-day all-ages event; it “garnered 687 million (online) impressions in 2018.” Based on the success of the original LA event, the NYC event expanded to three days in 2019, both had over 100,000 attendees in 2019.

RuPaul's Drag Race: Untucked! is a spin-off of the American reality competition RuPaul's Drag Race, currently airing on the cable channel MTV. The program debuted on Logo in the United States on February 1, 2010, as a companion show launched in conjunction with the second season of RuPaul's Drag Race; it moved to WOWPresents on March 3, 2015, as a web series, coinciding with the debut of the seventh season of the parent series. Painted with Raven is a makeup competition television series hosted by Raven, which premiered on WOW Presents Plus on November 25, 2021. RuPaul serves as co-executive producer alongside Randy Barbato, Fenton Bailey, and Tom Campbell of World of Wonder. After two weeks of the debut competition show, on December 9, 2021, it was announced that it had been picked up for a second season.
The second season of Painted with Raven is set to premiere on November 17, 2022. The cosmetic competition is exclusively available through WOW Presents Plus.
