Marcos Soares (born February 16, 1961) is a Brazilian sailor and Olympic champion. He won a gold medal in the 470 Class with Eduardo Penido at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. [1]
The gold medal in the 470 class was quite a surprise. [2] With an additional Brazilian victory in the Tornado class by Alexandre Welter and Lars Björkström, a fourth place in the Finn class, a sixth in the Soling class, and eight in the Flying Dutchman, Brazil was best sailing nation at the 1980 Olympics.
Brazil competed at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, USSR. 106 competitors, 91 men and 15 women, took part in 72 events in 14 sports. Brazilian athletes conquered gold medals again after 24 years, since the 1956 Summer Olympics. Brazil won two gold and two bronze medals in 1980.

Belcher was selected as the Australian flag bearer for the closing ceremony of the 2020 Summer Olympics after winning a second gold medal and third successive medal in the 470 class.

Eitan Friedlander is an Israeli former Olympic sailor. Friedlander and Shimshon Brokman won the 1972 420 International Yacht Racing Union (IYRU) Youth Sailing World Championship in West Germany, the gold medals in the 1979 470 European Championships in Spain and the 1980 420 World Championship in France, and a bronze medal in 1983 at the 470 World Championships.
Naoko Kamata is a Japanese former sailor, who specialized in the two-person dinghy (470) class. Together with her partner Ai Kondo, she was named one of the country's top sailors in the double-handed dinghy for the 2008 Summer Olympics, finishing in a lowly fourteenth place. Outside her Olympic career, Kamata collected a total of two medals in a major international regatta, spanning the World Championships and the Asian Games. A member of Team ABeam's sailing roster, Kamata trained most of her sporting career under the tutelage of her personal coach Kazunori Komatsu.
