Margaret Bevans Ransone (born April 24,1973) is an American politician. A Republican,she was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2011. She represented the 99th district,made up of the Northern Neck counties of King George,Lancaster,Northumberland,Richmond and Westmoreland,and part of Caroline County. [1] [2]
Ransone was born in Richmond,Virginia and raised in Westmoreland County. She received a B.A. degree from Randolph-Macon College in 2002. She currently works for a family-owned oyster business. [update] [1] [2]
The 99th district incumbent,Democrat Albert C. Pollard,retired for the second time in 2011. Ransone won a three-way primary for the Republican nomination with 61.25% of the vote. [3] She then defeated Democratic candidate Nicholas C. "Nick" Smith 14330–6364. [4]
In 2022,Ransone was promoted to chair of the Privileges and Elections Committee. [5]
She is married to Christopher Todd Ransone. They have two children,Ann and Christopher. [1] [2]

The 2009 Virginia gubernatorial election took place in Virginia on November 3, 2009. The incumbent Governor, Democrat Tim Kaine, was not eligible to run due to term limits established by the Virginia Constitution, though others in the state's executive branch were not restricted. Republican Bob McDonnell was elected as Governor as part of a Republican sweep. Republican Bill Bolling was reelected as lieutenant governor, and Republican Ken Cuccinelli was elected as attorney general. The winners were inaugurated on January 16, 2010, and served until January 11, 2014.

Virginia's 99th House of Delegates district elects one of the 100 members of the Virginia House of Delegates, the lower house of the state's bicameral legislature. The district is made up of the counties of King George, Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, Westmoreland, and part of Caroline County. Other than King George, the combined area is called the Northern Neck of Virginia.
The 2023 Virginia House of Delegates election took place on November 7, 2023, concurrently with elections for the Virginia Senate, to elect members of the 163rd Virginia General Assembly. All 100 delegates were elected to two-year terms from single-member districts. Nomination primaries held through the Department of Elections were held June 20, 2023. Democrats gained 3 seats, winning back control with a 51-49 majority after having previously lost it in 2021.
