Marilyn Manson concert chronology |
Prior to embarking on any official tour under the wing of a major label, Marilyn Manson spent several years touring independently at various locations in Florida such as Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, Miami Beach, South Hallandale and Davie, among various other one-night venues. During this time, the band is known to have left Florida only three times to perform. Until August 1992, the band played these shows as Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids. The band played these independent shows from April 28, 1990 until June 4, 1994.
During the Spooky Kids-era, the concerts featured several antics among which were girls covered in blood and wearing animal masks whilst locked in metal cages, women ironing Nazi flags onstage and keyboardist Madonna Wayne Gacy's renowned keyboard paraphernalia, such as children's toys and dismembered doll heads. [1]
At the band's July 11, 1991 performance, the first ten people to attend the show with an x across their forehead received a limited edition Marilyn Manson milk chocolate bar.
After the band's second show, which Manson has described as the band's "first real performance", Zsa Zsa Speck and Olivia Newton Bundy were removed from the band. They were replaced by the next performance by Madonna Wayne Gacy who hadn't yet attained a keyboard so instead played with toy soldiers onstage in the meantime, and Gidget Gein, guitarist of local band Insanity Assassin, respectively.
During the first two years of the band's existence, they had recorded a core set of songs that they would perform favorably, some that would never be performed again following the independent shows. The following list contains the most commonly played songs in the order they were most generally performed:
Towards the end of the independent shows and the near completion of the band's debut album Portrait of an American Family , the live set list resembled the following, occasionally with answering machine messages sampled as an intro and outro respectively:

Portrait of an American Family is the debut studio album by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It was released on July 19, 1994 by Nothing and Interscope Records. The group was formed in 1989 by vocalist Marilyn Manson and guitarist Daisy Berkowitz, whose names were created by combining the given name of a pop culture icon with the surname of a serial killer: a naming convention which all other band members would conform to for the next seven years. The most prominent lineup of musicians during their formative years included keyboardist Madonna Wayne Gacy, bassist Gidget Gein and drummer Sara Lee Lucas.
Smells Like Children is the first EP by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It was released on October 24, 1995 by Nothing and Interscope Records. Produced by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, it represents an era of the band full of drugs, abuses, tours, sound experiments, and references to the Child Catcher, a villain from the 1968 musical film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
The Last Tour on Earth is a live album comprising recordings from Marilyn Manson's Mechanical Animals Tour, Beautiful Monsters Tour and Rock is Dead Tour, released on November 12, 1999. On the studio version of "The Dope Show", Manson says that drugs "are made in California", but in the live version, he says that "drugs, they say, are made right here in Cleveland", to a roar of crowd approval, suggesting that the song was recorded in Cleveland, Ohio. "Lunchbox" was recorded in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and "I Don't Like the Drugs " was recorded in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. "The Last Day on Earth" was recorded in Las Vegas on the Mechanical Animals Tour, and "Get Your Gunn" was recorded some time during the Rock is Dead Tour.
Stephen Gregory Bier Jr., formerly known by his stage name Madonna Wayne Gacy and by the nickname Pogo, is an American musician who was the keyboard player for Marilyn Manson from 1989 to 2007. His stage name came from the names of the singer Madonna and the serial killer John Wayne Gacy.
Bradley Mark Stewart, known by his stage name Gidget Gein, was an American musician and artist. He was the second bassist and co-founder of the rock band Marilyn Manson. His stage name is a combination of fictional character Gidget and serial killer Ed Gein.
Frederick Streithorst, Jr., better known by his stage name Sara Lee Lucas, is the original drummer for Marilyn Manson. He has also performed as "S.L. Lucas" or simply "Lucas". His stage name is derived from American serial killer Henry Lee Lucas and baked goods company Sara Lee. After leaving Marilyn Manson in 1995, he performed in many other industrial bands using tribal style of drumming and experimental digital percussion. He also became active with his mastering company, Masterlab.
Lunch Boxes & Choklit Cows is a compilation album of previously unreleased demo tracks recorded in the early 1990s by Marilyn Manson. Original guitarist Scott Putesky obtained the rights to these and 11 other recordings in a lawsuit against Brian Warner, and announced that this release is the first in a planned series of Spooky Kids CDs. Some are from demos and others have never been previously released. These are digitally remastered and Putesky says they sound better than the original cassettes because of it.
"Lunchbox" is a song by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It was released as the second single from their debut album, Portrait of an American Family (1994). A heavy metal song that features elements of death metal, industrial music and punk rock, "Lunchbox" was written by the band's eponymous vocalist, Daisy Berkowitz, and Gidget Gein, and produced by Manson with Trent Reznor. According to Berkowitz, the track was written as the frontman's plea to be left alone; it was also inspired by a time where Manson defended himself from bullies with a Kiss lunchbox. The track features elements of "Fire" (1968) performed by Arthur Brown, a musician who influenced the band.
Dead to the World is the first live video album by American rock band Marilyn Manson, released on February 10, 1998 on VHS, documenting the infamous tour of the same name. It contains primarily live performances but delves into backstage and archival footage of the band.
God Is in the T.V. is the second live video album by American rock band Marilyn Manson, released on November 2, 1999 on VHS, documenting the Mechanical Animals Tour, Beautiful Monsters Tour and Rock Is Dead Tour. It features all 13 music videos the band spawned between July 1994 and November 1999 in reverse chronology, including uncensored bonus footage from the production of "The Dope Show" music video, as well as footage culled from various concerts across the world alongside backstage and behind-the-scenes clips.
Brian Tutunick is an American musician, more famously known as Olivia Newton Bundy, and was the bassist and co-founder of the rock group Marilyn Manson until 1990, when he was replaced by Gidget Gein. His stage name was created by mixing the names of Olivia Newton-John, singer; and Ted Bundy, serial killer.
"Get Your Gunn" is a song by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It was released as the lead single from their debut studio album, Portrait of an American Family (1994). The song was written by the band's eponymous vocalist along with original guitarist and bassist Daisy Berkowitz and Gidget Gein, respectively, and was produced by Manson with Trent Reznor. "Get Your Gunn" was inspired by the murder of abortionist David Gunn by a pro-life activist, an event which angered Manson. The song also took influence from Manson's lifelong fascination with abortion and an interaction he had with an anti-abortion protester.
"Astonishing Panorama of the End Times" is a song by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It was the only single on the Celebrity Deathmatch soundtrack. A studio recording of the song was included on the band's live album The Last Tour on Earth. It was nominated for the Best Metal Performance Grammy in 2001 but lost to "Elite" by Deftones.
Lost & Found is the second compilation album by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It was released in Europe on May 5, 2008 by Polydor Records. It contains four songs from Marilyn Manson's first four studio albums and one from their only live album, The Last Tour on Earth. There are no previously unreleased songs, B-sides or rarities on the album, all tracks can be found on the band's various studio albums preceding it. As of mid-2008, Lost & Found is only available via digital download, an average rate of $2 per track. The only two songs that don't appear on most editions of Lest We Forget: The Best Of are "I Don't Like the Drugs " and "Irresponsible Hate Anthem".
Scott Mitchell Putesky, or also known as Daisy Berkowitz, was an American musician, songwriter, composer, visual artist, and record producer. He was the co-founder of the rock band Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids , and was the guitarist for the band until 1996. After leaving Marilyn Manson, Putesky was involved in a number of other projects such as Three ton Gate, The Linda Blairs, Jack Off Jill, Stuck on Evil, Kill Miss Pretty, and The Daisy Kids.
Against All Gods was a worldwide arena tour by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It was the ninth tour the band embarked upon and the sixth to span over multiple legs. It was launched one month after in support of their compilation album, Lest We Forget: The Best Of, which was released on September 28, 2004 in the US. Beginning on October 27, 2004 and lasting until August 31, 2005, the tour included four legs spanning Europe, Japan and North America with a total of 64 completed shows.
Grotesk Burlesk was the ninth tour Marilyn Manson embarked on, under management of major record label Interscope Records. It was the band's fifth tour to span over multiple legs. The band was on tour from April 11, 2003 until January 3, 2004.
The Manson Family Album is the first studio recording by American rock band Marilyn Manson and a precursor to their debut studio album, 1994's Portrait of an American Family. It was produced by Roli Mosimann and is composed of original takes and mixes of songs which were later found on their debut album. However, the band and its eponymous vocalist were unhappy with Mosimann's production, claiming it to be poorly representative of their established sound and calling it too "smoothed and polished". The majority of songs on The Manson Family Album were later re-recorded or remixed by Nine Inch Nails personnel Trent Reznor, Sean Beaven and Alan Moulder at the Record Plant in Los Angeles. The album's title is a double entendre; it also relates to the commune of cult leader Charles Manson.
The Smells Like Children Tour was the fourth tour Marilyn Manson embarked on, under the management of major record label Interscope Records. The tour was, however, the band's second headlining tour, following the Portrait of an American Family Tour the previous year. The band was on tour from June 1, 1995 until February 4, 1996.
