Marilyn Manson concert chronology |
The Heaven Upside Down Tour is the fifteenth concert tour by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It was launched in support of their tenth studio album, Heaven Upside Down , which was released on October 6, 2017. Beginning on July 20, 2017, the tour currently includes seven legs spanning Europe and North America, for a total of 124 shows.
The live band for the tour initially included Marilyn Manson on vocals, Twiggy on bass guitar, Tyler Bates on lead guitar, Paul Wiley on rhythm guitar, Gil Sharone on drums, and Daniel Fox on percussion and keyboards. Several of these musicians have left the band throughout the tour, however. Fox played his final show with the band on the July 31 date in Moscow, although he remains a member of the crew as Sharone's drum technician. Twiggy was dismissed from the band on October 25. [1]
Bates also indicated he would not be performing on the second European leg, saying: "I want to play as many shows as I can, but I've got some pretty intense commitments with film coming up and that takes precedence. The great thing about my working relationship with Manson and how the band is set up is that they can accommodate me when I'm there, or reconfigure things when I'm not." [2]
Their second co-headlining tour with Rob Zombie, the "Twins of Evil: The Second Coming Tour" (following the 2012 "Twins of Evil Tour"), began on July 11 in Detroit and consisted of nearly 30 dates spanning North America. [3]
The band debuted several songs during the first European leg of the tour, including new tracks from Heaven Upside Down, such as "Revelation #12", [4] "We Know Where You Fucking Live" and "Say10", [5] and "1°". However, the latter was subsequently revealed to be band jam based on their cover version of Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)". The tour also encompassed several appearances by the band at music festivals, including an October 22 appearance at the Sacramento-based Aftershock Festival, at which Nine Inch Nails was also scheduled to appear. [6] Manson indicated that he may join that band on-stage at the festival after he and Trent Reznor mended a longstanding feud. [7] However, Marilyn Manson later pulled out of the festival due to injuries caused by a prop falling on the vocalist. [8]
The entire band narrowly avoided injury in Moscow when their tour bus was involved in a collision with a semi-trailer truck. Bates recalled: "We had a real asshole driver who worked for the promoter, and he nearly got us killed on the way from the airport. At some point, we just bailed out of the vehicle, because [the driver] was being really weird and contentious, and tried to lock us inside." [9] Additionally, the North American leg of the tour has seen the band's eponymous vocalist be injured several times while performing on-stage. During the encore performance of "The Beautiful People" on September 29 at Stage AE in Pittsburgh, Manson broke his ankle after jumping from the stage to sing with fans who were standing near the barricade. After the vocalist crawled back on-stage, the band abruptly abandoned the song. However, they resumed when Manson invited opener Alice Glass to take over on vocals. [10] He had reportedly expressed safety concerns to his tour manager prior to the concert. [11]
The following night, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, a large 750kg – approximately 1650lbs – stage prop consisting of two oversized pistols attached via metal scaffolding fell on the vocalist. [12] According to Manson, the metal truss supporting the prop had not been securely fastened to the ground. He later explained: "I wasn't trying to climb it. It started to fall and I tried to push [it] back, [but] I didn't get out the way in time. I'm not sure what I hit my head on, but it did fall onto my leg". [13] The incident happened while the band was performing their cover of "Sweet Dreams". [14] Manson lay unconscious on the stage for up to 15 minutes [15] before being carried out of the venue on a stretcher to a nearby hospital. [16] The prop broke Manson's fibula in two places and required a plate and ten screws to be inserted into the bone to repair the damage. He also had a screw inserted into his ankle to repair the damage sustained during the Pittsburgh show. [17] He was discharged from the hospital after several days and spent time recuperating at his home in Los Angeles. [18]
The following nine dates of the North American leg were immediately cancelled, [19] with the remaining October shows gradually cancelled over the next week. All of these shows – excluding festival appearances – were rescheduled for the beginning of 2018. [20]
The European tour continued as planned with Marilyn Manson adapting his stage show and props to work with his recovery. A special chair was designed allowing him to sit and stand up with support, a hospital bed was used for other songs, other leg supports were also used to ensure he could stand on stage and perform as planned.
Marilyn Manson played a lot of songs during the tour. Most played songs are: "Disposable Teens", "The Beautiful People", "The Dope Show", "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)", "This Is the New Shit", "Mobscene", "Say10" and "Deep Six".

Marilyn Manson is an American rock band formed by namesake lead singer Marilyn Manson and guitarist Daisy Berkowitz in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 1989. Originally named Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids, they gained a local cult following in South Florida in the early 1990s with their theatrical live performances. In 1993, they were the first act signed to Trent Reznor's Nothing Records label. Until 1996, the name of each member was created by combining the first name of a female sex symbol and the last name of a male serial killer—for example, Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson. Their lineup has changed between many of their album releases; the eponymous lead singer is the only remaining original member.
Jeordie Osbourne White, better known Twiggy Ramirez or simply Twiggy, is an American musician, mostly known as the former bassist and guitarist of the rock band Marilyn Manson. Previously, he was the bassist for A Perfect Circle and a touring member of Nine Inch Nails, and is currently the vocalist for Goon Moon. He left Marilyn Manson in 2002, later rejoined the band in 2008, and was dismissed in 2017. He has been a principal songwriter for the band and has also contributed to some of the Desert Sessions recordings. He also hosted the Hour of Goon podcast with fellow musician Fred Sablan, on the Starburns Audio network.
Tyler Bates is an American musician, music producer, multi-instrumentalist and composer for film, television, and video game scores. Much of his work is in the action and horror film genres, with films like Dawn of the Dead, 300, Sucker Punch, Halloween and Halloween II and the John Wick franchise. He has collaborated with directors like Zack Snyder, Rob Zombie, Gennady Tartakovsky, Neil Marshall, William Friedkin, Scott Derrickson, James Gunn, Chad Stahelski and David Leitch. In addition, he is the lead guitarist of the American rock band Marilyn Manson, and produced its albums The Pale Emperor and Heaven Upside Down. He is Jerry Cantrell's touring/studio member.
"I Don't Like the Drugs (But the Drugs Like Me)" is a song by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It was released as the second single from their third studio album, Mechanical Animals (1998). It was written by the band's eponymous frontman, along with bassist Twiggy Ramirez and then-guitarist Zim Zum, and was produced by Manson and Michael Beinhorn. A glam rock song inspired by drugs, television, and religion, the track features a gospel choir and a guitar solo by Dave Navarro of Jane's Addiction.
"Rock Is Dead" is a song by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It was released as the third single from their third studio album, Mechanical Animals (1998). It was written by the band's eponymous frontman, along with bassist Twiggy Ramirez and keyboardist Madonna Wayne Gacy, and was produced by Manson, Michael Beinhorn and Sean Beavan. A glam rock and heavy metal track with elements of electronic music and grunge, the song features electric and bass guitars, keyboards, and live drums in its instrumentation. The song was featured on the soundtrack of the Wachowskis' film The Matrix (1999).
Rock Is Dead was a worldwide arena tour by American rock band Marilyn Manson in 1999. It was the second tour launched in support of their third full-length studio LP, Mechanical Animals, which was released on September 15, 1998.
Mechanical Animals was a worldwide tour by the band Marilyn Manson in support of their third LP record Mechanical Animals, released on September 15, 1998. The tour extended from late 1998 to early 1999 and was recorded in 1998 for the VHS-format God is in the TV which was released on November 2, 1999.
Born Villain is the eighth studio album by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It was released on April 25, 2012 by Cooking Vinyl and Marilyn Manson's independent record label Hell, etc. It was the band's first release since the departure of Ginger Fish, who had been their drummer since 1995, and was their only album to feature Fred Sablan. The record was co-produced by the band's eponymous vocalist alongside former Nine Inch Nails member Chris Vrenna, who left shortly after its completion to focus on other production work.
The Hey Cruel World...Tour, by American rock band Marilyn Manson, supported their eighth full-length studio LP, 2012's Born Villain. The band's thirteenth tour was their ninth to spread over multiple legs, spanning North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Oceania. The tour was named after the opening song of the album.
The Twins of Evil Tour was the first double-bill concert tour co-headlined by American rock bands Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson. Launched in support of each band's respective full-length studio LPs, 2010's Hellbilly Deluxe 2 and 2012's Born Villain, the tour visited a mixture of amphitheaters, indoor arenas and outdoor stadiums from September 28, 2012, through December 12, 2012. There were also shows given at smaller, more intimate venues, such as New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom. It was conceived as a follow-up tour for Zombie's Hellbilly Deluxe 2 World Tour. At the time, Marilyn Manson was engaged in their worldwide Hey Cruel World... Tour, thus Twins of Evil became a 'tour within a tour' for the band. It consisted of two legs, with dates in the United States and Europe.
The Pale Emperor is the ninth studio album by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It was released on January 15, 2015, through lead singer Marilyn Manson's Hell, etc. label, and distributed in the United States by Loma Vista Recordings and internationally by Cooking Vinyl. The album was issued in standard and deluxe editions on CD and double LP vinyl, and as a limited edition box set. The standard version of the album contains ten tracks; the deluxe edition includes three acoustic versions as bonus tracks.
The Hell Not Hallelujah Tour is the fourteenth concert tour by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It launched in support of their ninth studio album, The Pale Emperor, which was released on January 20, 2015, in the United States. Beginning on January 21, 2015, the tour includes eleven legs spanning North and South America, Australia, Europe and Japan with a total of 156 shows. Hell Not Hallelujah is the group's tenth tour to spread over multiple legs spanning over multiple continents. The live band for this tour includes Marilyn Manson on vocals and Twiggy on bass guitar, and featured newcomers Tyler Bates on lead guitar, Paul Wiley on rhythm guitar, Daniel Fox on percussions and keyboards and Gil Sharone on drums. Bates left the touring lineup after the April 11, 2015 show at the Minot Municipal Auditorium in North Dakota, and was replaced on lead guitar by Paul Wiley.
The End Times Tour was a double bill North American concert tour, co-headlined by American rock bands Marilyn Manson and The Smashing Pumpkins, with Cage opening. It was launched as a supporting 'tour within a tour' for Marilyn Manson's The Hell Not Hallelujah Tour. The End Times Tour supported both Manson's ninth studio album The Pale Emperor (2015) and the Smashing Pumpkins' tenth studio release, Monuments to an Elegy (2014).
Heaven Upside Down is the tenth studio album by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It was released on October 6, 2017, by Loma Vista Recordings and Caroline International. The record had the working title Say10 and was initially due to be issued on Valentine's Day. However, the release was delayed by numerous events, most notably the death of Marilyn Manson's father, Hugh Warner, who died during production and to whom the album was later dedicated. The record has many of the musicians who performed on the band's previous album, The Pale Emperor (2015), including the producer Tyler Bates and the drummer Gil Sharone. Despite Manson's early implications, long-time bass guitarist Twiggy Ramirez did not participate on the album. He left the group following a sexual assault allegation by a former girlfriend.
"We Know Where You Fucking Live" is a song by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It was released on September 11, 2017 as the lead single from their tenth studio album, Heaven Upside Down (2017).
"Tattooed in Reverse" is a song by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It was first released as the second track on the band's tenth studio album, Heaven Upside Down (2017). The song was released as an airplay-only promotional single in the United States on March 6, 2018, when it was serviced to active rock radio formats. It peaked at number 35 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Chart, making Heaven Upside Down their first album since 1998's Mechanical Animals to contain more than one charting song on Mainstream Rock, following the top five peak of preceding single "Kill4Me".
Twins of Evil: The Second Coming Tour was the second double bill concert tour co-headlined by American rock bands Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson with special guest Deadly Apples, launched in support of Manson's tenth studio album Heaven Upside Down (2017) and Zombie's sixth solo album The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser (2016), as well as a vinyl box set released by Zombie on March 30, 2018. The tour was a sequel to the 2012 "Twins of Evil Tour", and visited a mix of amphitheaters and arenas from July 11 to August 29 and December 29.

The tour was staged by concert promoter LiveNation, following the critical and commercial success of the Twins of Evil franchise, from July 9, 2019, until August 18, 2019, and included stops at the Rock USA and Rock Fest concert festivals in mid-July. It covered 24 dates throughout North America, including six shows in Canada, and lasted for six weeks.
