Mars is a ghost town in Van Zandt County, Texas, United States. [1]

Once a retail center for the surrounding community, all that remains of the settlement is a church.

History

Mars was settled by brothers John and Henry Marrs. [2]

The settlement was a retail trading center, and had two mercantile stores, a blacksmith shop, and a cotton gin and grist mill. [2] [3] [4]

The Pleasant Ridge Church and school were established in 1871. [4] In 1916, the school consolidated to form the Clower Common School District (Clower is located approximately 15 mi (24 km) north of Mars). [4] [5] [6]

In 1891, a post office was established, originally called "Acme". The name was changed to "Mars" seven years later. The post office closed in 1907. [4] [7]

The population of Mars was over 100 in 1915, and had declined to 50 in 1945. [2]

The Pleasant Ridge Church is all that remains of the settlement. [2]

Corinth is a ghost town in Van Zandt County, Texas, United States. Corinth was located on Farm to Market Road 1255, 8 miles (13 km) northeast of Canton. From 1848 to 1873, Corinth was a stagecoach stop between Marshall and Dallas. The first school opened in 1849. In 1888, a post office opened in the community under the name Hatton. After the post office closed in 1906, the community was renamed Corinth. Corinth had a school from 1890 to 1940. In 1940, the school was consolidated with the Grand Saline Independent School District. By 1981, all that remained of the community was its church, its cemetery, and some scattered homes.

Dango is a ghost town located in southwestern Jackson County, Kentucky, United States. The town was located at the confluence of Racoon Creek and Horse Lick Creek, which flows into the Rockcastle River. It is located southwest of McKee by 8 miles, and 2.7 miles southeast of another ghost town, Loam. Near the confluence of the two creeks is the historical Carpenter School, which may be named after Carpenter Ridge, of which it is two miles south of. Heavy settlement and farming occurred in the area around Horse Lick Creek, where Dango was, until the early 1900s. The area where Dango was is currently occupied by the Daniel Boone National Forest, known as the Horse Lick Creek Biopreserve, with the majority of ownership being private.

Pleasant Ridge is a former community in the Town of Beetown, Grant County, Wisconsin, United States. Settled c. 1850 by a family of formerly enslaved African Americans from Fauquier County, Virginia, Pleasant Ridge was a rural community with a significant population of formerly enslaved people and their descendants. The community declined in the 20th century, and the last African-American resident died in 1959.
