Matt Lockett (born June 8, 1974) is an American politician and Republican member of the Kentucky House of Representatives from Kentucky's 39th House district since January 2021. His district comprises parts of Fayette and Jessamine counties.^[1]

Background

Lockett earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Murray State University, and later earned a Master of Arts from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

He is currently employed as a financial adviser at Family Wealth Group. Previously, he served as director of the Kentucky Department of Insurance's Health and Life division as well as the Property and Casualty division. and worked as a financial services professional.^[2]

Lockett is also a former chair of the Jessamine County Republican Party as well as a volunteer for the Alzheimer's Association and member of the Jessamine County Chamber of Commerce.^[3]

Political career

Elections

2012 Lockett was unopposed in the 2012 Republican primary for Kentucky's 39th House district and was defeated in the 2012 Kentucky House of Representatives election by Democratic incumbent Robert Damron.^[4] He garnered 6,364 votes (43,7%).^[5]
2020 Lockett won the 2020 Republican primary with 3,143 votes (59.9%),^[4] and won the 2020 Kentucky House of Representatives election with 13,485 votes (61.1%) against Democratic candidate Carolyn Dupont.^[6]^[7]
2022 Lockett was unopposed in the 2022 Republican primary^[4] and won the 2022 Kentucky House of Representatives election with 8,329 votes (59.6%) against Democratic candidate Gwendolyn Mitchell.^[8]
2024 Lockett was unopposed in the 2024 Republican primary and will face Democratic candidate Ryan Stanford in the 2024 Kentucky House of Representatives election on November 5.^[4]

Derrick Wayne Graham is an American politician and a former Democratic member of the Kentucky House of Representatives who represented the 57th district, which includes the Kentucky capital city of Frankfort, since January 2003. In 2023, Graham became the first African American to lead a legislative caucus in the Kentucky House of Representatives.

James Alfred Gooch Jr. is an American politician and member of the Kentucky House of Representatives since January 1995. He represents Kentucky's 12th House district, which includes Crittenden, McLean, Union, and Webster counties. Gooch switched parties from Democratic to Republican in December 2015. He has served as chair of the House Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Energy for over 20 years.

Kimberly Poore Moser is an American politician and Republican member of the Kentucky House of Representatives from Kentucky's 64th House district since January 2017. Her district includes parts of Kenton County. Currently, Moser serves as chair of the House Standing Committee on Health Services.

Christopher Wade Fugate is an American politician and Republican member of the Kentucky House of Representatives from Kentucky's 84th House district. His district includes Breathitt, Owsley, and Perry counties. He also preaches at His Church Gospel Light Baptist Church in Hazard, Kentucky.

Phillip Randolph Pratt is an American politician who was a Republican member of the Kentucky House of Representatives from 2017 to 2025. His district consisted of part of Scott County. Pratt did not seek reelection in 2024.

Richard Lee White is an American politician who has served as a Republican member of the Kentucky House of Representatives since March 2020. He represents Kentucky's 99th House district which includes Elliott, Morgan, and Rowan counties.

Killian Timoney is an American politician, educator, and former Republican member of the Kentucky House of Representatives from Kentucky's 45th House district from 2021 to 2025. His district comprises parts of Jefferson and Oldham counties. Fleming was previously a member of the Louisville Metro Council from 2003 to 2015 and the House from 2017 to 2019.

R. Shane Baker is an American politician and Republican member of the Kentucky House of Representatives from Kentucky's 85th House district. His district includes parts of Laurel and Pulaski counties. Baker was sworn into office on January 1, 2021.

Daniel B. Elliott is an American attorney and politician serving as a Republican member of the Kentucky House of Representatives from Kentucky's 54th House district since March 2016. He currently serves as chair of the House Standing Committee on Judiciary.

Matthew Ryan Koch is an American politician serving as a Republican member of the Kentucky House of Representatives from Kentucky's 72nd House district. His district includes Bourbon, Fleming, and Nicholas County.
