Mehuli Ghosh (born 20 November 2000) is an Indian sport shooter. She represents India at international junior shooting championships across the world. [1] Among 123 competitors, she was the only Indian shooting athlete to reach the finals of the 2018 junior shooting competition held in the Czech Republic. She ranked seventh there. In 2018, at the XXI Commonwealth Games held at Gold Coast, Australia, she won a silver medal in Women's 10m Air Rifle after a shoot-off with Martina Veloso. As of September 2023, she was ranked 36th in the world and 14th in Asia. [2] [3]

Early career

Mehuli joined the Serampore Rifle Club in 2014. She was banned by the club for accidentally hitting a person during practice. Later, Mehuli was mentored and coached by former Indian Olympic finalist and Arjuna Awardee, Joydeep Karmarkar.

She received her training at the Joydeep Karmarkar Shooting Academy. In 2016, she qualified for the Indian National Shooting Championships held in Pune. She received two gold medals and seven silver medals at the national championships. In the 2017 National Championships, Mehuli won eight gold and three bronze medals, and was judged Best Shooter. Professional career

In 2017, she participated at the preparatory junior shooting championship held in the Czech Republic and finished at the seventh position. She finished in 17th position at the Junior World Shooting Championship held in Germany. [5] Mehuli achieved the title of Asian Champion in December 2017 in Wako City, Japan, with an impressive score of 420.1. This remarkable feat also earned her a quota place for the Youth Olympics in 2018. In March 2018, she made history as one of the youngest Indian competitors to win two World Cup medals at the ISSF World Cup held in Mexico. During the competition, she even set a new Junior World Record. Mehuli also qualified to participate in the Commonwealth Games in 2018, showcasing her talent on the international stage. Ghosh was award the "Female Young Athlete of the Year" award at the Sportstar Aces Awards in 2020. [9]

Bindra is also the first Indian to have held concurrently the World and Olympic titles for the men's 10-meter air rifle event, having earned those honors at the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2006 World Championships. Bindra has won seven medals at the Commonwealth Games and three medals at the Asian Games.

Sally Johnston is a New Zealand competitive sport shooter. She started shooting in 1983 with her first international competition in 1995 at the Oceania Championships in Auckland. Johnston placed eighth in the 50m rifle three positions and ninth in the 10m air rifle. In 1997, she beat her personal bests in all three events at the Oceania Championships in Adelaide where she placed fourth in the 50m rifle prone, tenth in the 10m air rifle and eleventh in 50m rifle three positions event.

Shooting sports have been contested at the Commonwealth Games at every games since 1966 with the exception of the 1970 and 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Joydeep Karmakar is an Indian sports shooter from Kolkata, West Bengal. He represented India in rifle prone events in various championships. started his sports career in 1989. He became a Junior National Champion in his first Nationals in 1994. He has represented India in 28 World Cups 2 Commonwealth Games 1 Asian Games 3 World Championships. He qualified to represent India at London 2012 Summer Olympics in men's 50 metre rifle prone event. His career best world ranking is 4th and in Asia 1st in 2010 to 2012.

Malaika Goel is an Indian shooter. She won the silver medal in the Women's 10m Air Pistol competition at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. She was the youngest medallist.

Martina Lindsay Veloso is a Singaporean sports shooter. She won the gold medal in the 2014 ISSF World Cup in the 10 meters Air Rifle Women event and thus becoming the youngest ISSF shooter in getting one. She has also won the silver medal in 2014 Summer Youth Olympics. She was named Sportsgirl of the Year for 2015 and Sportswoman of the Year for 2019.

Seonaid McIntosh is a British sports shooter who became the World Champion at the 2018 ISSF World Shooting Championships in the 50m Prone Rifle event. In 2019 she became Britain's most successful female rifle shooter of all time, winning five World Cup medals. She also became the first British Woman to rank World #1 for the 50m Rifle Three Position event and became European Champion in the 300m Rifle Prone event with an equal World Record score.

Dhanush Srikanth is an Indian deaf sports shooter. He made his Deaflympic debut at the age of 19 representing India at the 2021 Summer Deaflympics. Despite his deafness, he has been competing in Indian shooting circuit and has been regarded as one of the regular faces in Indian shooting fraternity. He is currently coached by former Indian sports shooter Gagan Narang at the Guns for Glory Shooting Academy in Hyderabad.
