Merzxiu is a collaborative album by Japanese noise musician Merzbow and American art rock band Xiu Xiu. It was released exclusively for the Record Store Day on April 18, 2015 through Canadian record label Kingfisher Bluez. The initial run of the LP was limited to only 1000 copies. [1] [2] [3]
Merzbow and Xiu Xiu previously collaborated live in 2010 at a show in (Le) Poisson Rouge in New York. During the recording of the release, both artists swapped music through e-mail and a translator. Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu described the tracks off the record as "death drone/extinction meditations... very slow, sonically violent and loud." [4]
Xiu Xiu is an American experimental rock band, formed in 2002 by singer-songwriter Jamie Stewart in San Jose, California. Currently, the line-up consists of multi-instrumentalists Stewart, Angela Seo, and percussionist David Kendrick. The band's name comes from the film Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl, which has influenced the sound of their music, according to Stewart.

It is presented in two parts; the first disc features re-recordings of several Boris songs and a cover of the My Bloody Valentine song "Sometimes" in drone-based, drumless style, while the second disc consists of new compositions by Merzbow. They are intended to be played at the same time, much like the previous Boris double album Dronevil, or as separate works.

Ignore Grief is the thirteenth studio album by American experimental band Xiu Xiu, released on March 3, 2023, by Polyvinyl. It was written by band leader Jamie Stewart and new member David Kendrick. It was produced by fellow member Angela Seo, and recorded by Stewart at their home studio in Los Angeles, alongside a wide array of guest musicians including Charlie Looker, Ben Chisholm, Ezra Buchla, Patrick Shiroishi and Ian Wellman. The album artwork was designed by Janelle Abad, and depicts a white bat over a black background.
