Mettupalayam railway station is a railway station located in Mettupalayam, a suburb of Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu, India. Its railway code is MTP. It is one of the important railway stations located in the Coimbatore District, [2] because the Nilgiri Mountain Railway to the hill station of Ooty starts from here. It is the connection between the meter -gauge Nilgiri Mountain Railway and the broad-gauge main network of Indian Railways. It recently celebrated its 150th anniversary. [3]
The station is served by the Salem Division of Southern Railway zone of Indian Railways. The Grand Trunk Express used to run from Mettupalayam to Peshawar from 15 October 1929 and was extended to Lahore from 1 March 1930. Later that year, on 1 September 1930, it was changed to New Delhi to Chennai, which remains the case till today. [4] [5] The Tea Garden Express ran in metre gauge between Ooty and Mettupalayam and broad gauge between Mettupalayam and Cochin Harbour Terminus. [6] [7] Post-Indian independence, the Ooty–Mettupalayam trip was cut off, and the train ran as No. 565/566 between Cochin Harbour Terminus and Mettupalayam since the 1970s. [8] [9] Today the Nilgiri Express (also known as the Blue Mountain Express) covers Chennai to Mettupalayam and acts as the link to Ooty. Nilgiri Express used to be the main portion of Bangalore Mail, [10] Island Express, Malabar Express and Mumbai-Coimbatore (Through Coach bifurcate/amalgamate to Chennai-Mumbai Mail). [11]
The Mettupalayam junction to Ooty passenger train (56136) only departs from Mettupalayam after the arrival of Nilgiri Express (12671) at Mettupalayam. [12]

The 16525 /16526 IslandExpress is an Indian Railways train running between Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Bangalore City railway station, Bangalore and Kanyakumari railway station, Kanyakumari. Train no. 16526 runs from Bengaluru to Kanyakumari, and Train No. 16525 runs in the reverse direction. The train runs daily through the state of Kerala and covers the 944 km journey in about 19 hours 15 minutes.

It also serves as a gateway to several popular tourist destinations such as Ooty and Kodaikanal. Although Coimbatore railway station has the suffix Junction in its name, it's not a true junction. No new line starts from or ends at Coimbatore. It's just a passing railway station lies between Podanur Junction and Coimbatore North Junction.

Cochin Harbour Terminus (CHTS) is one of the railway stations in the city of Kochi, in the state of Kerala, India. It is located on the Willingdon Island. During the peak time of the station, 17 trains operated from here to different parts of the country and served as the principal station providing rail connectivity to the southern segment of the Port of Kochi located on the Willingdon Island. The station, which has not been in use after the commissioning of Vallarpadam container terminus is now locked and all the train service to the station from Ernakulam Junction were completely stopped in 2013. Since then, only occasional tourist trains carrying passengers will arrive at the station – notably the Golden Chariot in 2022.

Jadayampalayam Pudur is a small village, located 4 km from Mettupalayam town, on Mettupalayam-Tirupur state highway 80. The village become very famous because of its residential development. A major landmark is a small hillock popularly known in Kannada as "Kallal Mokke" meaning "mound made of stones". There is an abandoned stone quarry which is always with water even in dry season attracting birds and insects. It is a great spot for watching birds with some rare birds being spotted in this surrounding. The famous Tamil movie Aattukkara Alamelu was partially filmed here
The Jolarpettai–Shoranur line connects Jolarpettai, on the Chennai Central–Bangalore City line in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and Shoranur in Kerala.
