Meyerland Plaza is a large shopping center located in southwest Houston, Texas, United States. Meyerland Plaza is located in the Meyerland neighborhood of Houston and is just outside the 610 Loop. The anchor stores are JCPenney, Target, Ross Dress for Less, Marshalls, EOS Fitness, H-E-B, Old Navy, Joann, and Office Depot. There are 5 vacant anchor stores that were once Bed Bath & Beyond, Palais Royal, Stein Mart, Best Buy, and Pier 1 Imports.
Meyerland Plaza opened on October 31, 1957. Around the time the Houston Chronicle stated that Meyerland Plaza was "in the heart of the luxury residential additions of Southwest Houston." A Houston Chronicle article from October 27, 1957 stated that Meyerland Plaza was developed to maintain the suburban atmosphere that was present in surrounding areas. [1] Meyerland Plaza was originally built as Houston's second "regional mall". [2] The mall originally housed a Henke & Pillot supermarket. [3]
The shopping center started to decay in the 1980s. [2] Meyerland Co., which was a former owner of the center, filed for bankruptcy in 1987. Lamar Savings Association and Continental Savings Association foreclosed on the center later that year. [1] The center has been re-developed as a power center; its official grand re-opening was in 1995. [2] Fidelis and BlackRock purchased the shopping center in September of 2013.
On Memorial Day, May 30, 1961,[ citation needed ] the "Hero Tree" was dedicated as a living memorial to Capt. Gary L. Herod for his heroism. The tree and a stone marker were located along Beechnut Street near Compass Bank. In February 2018, as the section of Meyerland Plaza was to be redeveloped, Embark Tree and Landscape Services arborist Steve Navarro determined the tree was in poor health. [4] The tree was cut down in July 2018 and given to the Woodworkers Club of Houston be turned into souvenirs, while the plaque was moved to Herod Elementary School. [5]
H-E-B opened a supermarket in Meyerland Plaza in 2019; its previous Meyerland store, located elsewhere, closed in 2017 after Hurricane Harvey. [6]
Becks Prime leased 2,701 square feet (250.9 m2) of space in Meyerland Plaza in 2008. [7]

The Galleria, stylized theGalleria and also known as the Houston Galleria, is an upscale mixed-use urban development and shopping mall located in the Uptown District of Houston, Texas, United States. The development consists of a retail complex, as well as the Galleria Office Towers complex, two Westin hotels, and a private health club. The office towers and hotels are separately owned and managed from the mall. The mall features Macy's, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Springdale Mall is a shopping center located in Mobile, Alabama, United States, directly across from Bel Air Mall. Opened in 1959 as an open-air shopping center, Springdale Mall was later redeveloped as an enclosed shopping center. Facing competition from larger shopping centers in the area, Springdale was demolished in stages in the 2000s, with most of the former enclosed mall being replaced with big-box stores.
PlazAmericas, formerly known as Sharpstown Mall and earlier Sharpstown Center, is a shopping mall located in the Sharpstown development in Greater Sharpstown, Houston, Texas. The mall is located on the northwest corner of Interstate 69/U.S. Route 59 and Bellaire Boulevard. This is the third mall to be built in Houston after Gulfgate Mall opened in 1956 and Meyerland Plaza in 1957, but the first fully air-conditioned mall in Houston. The area includes the Jewelry Exchange Center, a ten-story building. After the mall was renamed PlazAmericas, it took a Latin American theme and catered to Hispanics. The anchor stores are Burlington, SuperNova Furniture, America Cinemas, La Sorella, Gold Factory & Imports, and Clarewood Supermercado.
West Oaks Mall is a regional shopping mall located in the Alief area of the west side of Houston, Texas, USA, that opened in 1984. With a trade area serving far western parts of Houston including a business clientele in the Energy Corridor and suburban neighborhoods west of George Bush Park in the Greater Katy and Fulshear areas, the mall is located at Texas State Highway 6 and Westheimer Road and can easily be accessed south on Highway 6 via Interstate 10.

Lakewood Towne Center is a shopping center located in Lakewood, Washington, a suburb of Tacoma. Lakewood Towne Center was created when MBK Northwest bought and demolished the enclosed portion of the failing Lakewood Mall in 2001, and turned the site into an open air destination by creating four distinct components, including a civic center with a city hall as its centerpiece, a power center, entertainment center, and a neighborhood center. Lakewood Mall itself had been a replacement for the outdoor Villa Plaza Shopping Center.
Southlands Lifestyle Center is a regional shopping mall located in Aurora, Colorado. The center is located at the intersection of Smoky Hill Road and the E-470 tollway, about 15 miles south of Denver International Airport, east of the Saddle Rock neighborhood and west of Cherokee Trail High School and the Tallyn's Reach neighborhood. Based on retail floor space, Southlands is the largest non-enclosed mall in the United States. It opened in 2005, featuring a unique design incorporating a "Main Street" of shops and smaller eateries, surrounded by larger stores near the perimeter of the center. Currently there are about 40 vacant retail locations on Main Street. In March 2018, the property was purchased by M & J Wilkow Ltd. and MetLife Investment Management.

Memorial City is a commercial district in the Memorial area of Houston, Texas, United States. Located along Interstate 10 between Beltway 8 and Bunker Hill Road, the district is anchored by Memorial City Mall, the nation's 38th-largest shopping mall; Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center; CityCentre, a high-density mixed-use development; and Town & Country Village, a shopping center. Large portions of Memorial City are owned by development firm MetroNational, which has developed 265 acres in the area, including the entirety of the mall.

Henke & Pillot was a chain of supermarkets headquartered in Houston, Texas. The chain began in 1872. During its final years of existence, it was a subsidiary of Kroger, which acquired Henke's in 1955. In 1966, Kroger announced the retirement of the Henke & Pillot name.

Orange County Plaza, later Garden Grove Mall, Garden Promenade, now The Promenade at Garden Grove, was, upon its expansion in 1959, with sixty stores, the largest shopping center in Orange County, California, and at the time billed itself as "Orange County's first regional shopping center". However, Anaheim Plaza had in fact already opened In 1955, four years prior, and had an anchor department store.
