Miami Music Week (MMW) is a weeklong marathon of electronic dance music that takes place in Miami, Florida. During the last week of March, the event is attended by hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world. [1] [2] In 2015, over 1,000 artists performed at over 260 events hosted at a myriad of venues across Miami. [1] [3] Venues include nightclubs, pools, boats, and pop-up spaces/venues in areas such as Wynwood, Downtown Miami, Miami Beach, and Little Haiti. [4] [5] [6] Miami Music Week also leads up to the Ultra Music Festival, which is attended by 165,000 people over three days. [7] [8]

History

Miami Music Week began in 2011, taking place from 24–27 March, ending at the same time Ultra Music Festival had concluded its thirteenth edition. [9] [10] Since then, Miami Music Week has continued to grow every year, eventually becoming one of the world's largest congregations of dance music lovers. [11]

On March 21, 2018, Miami Music Week bought out the Winter Music Conference and the International Dance Music Awards. [12]

Artists and venues

There have been many other hotels that have hosted pool parties during previous editions of Miami Music Week. These include the Gale Hotel, Dream Hotel, Raleigh Hotel, SLS Hotel, Surfcomber Hotel, Nautilus South Beach, Congress Hotel, Albion Hotel, and many others located around Miami Beach. Miami Music Week has gained popularity through notable reunions, debuts, and traditions. [18] [19] [20] This includes the return of Deep Dish (Sharam & Dubfire); and the debut of ENTER. in Miami; the massive 24-hour marathon party, Get Lost which is hosted by Crosstown Rebels; and of course Ultra Music Festival, which consistently proves to be one of the most popular music festivals in the world. Labels like Crosstown Rebels, Music On, Armada, Spinnin', Revealed, Monstercat, Anjunabeats, Mixmash, Dirtybird, Fool's Gold, Mad Decent, Axtone, and mau5trap hosted events during this past edition of Miami Music Week across venues throughout the city of Miami. [23] [24] [25] [26] [27] [28] [29] Artists who have appeared at Miami Music Week in the past include the likes of Armin van Buuren, Hardwell, Afrojack, Axwell, Steve Angello, Above & Beyond, Eric Prydz, Luciano, Markus Schulz, Damian Lazarus, Marco Carola, Sander van Doorn, Martin Garrix, Laidback Luke, Tiesto, David Guetta, Kaskade, Skrillex, Cashmere Cat, Chet Faker, Richie Hawtin, Josh Wink, Solomun, and many more. Miami Music Week Hotel (2015-present)

In 2015, Miami Music Week announced the first-ever Miami Music Week Hotel, which was located at the Delano Hotel in South Beach, Florida. [33] In 2016, the Miami Music Week Hotel once again took place at the Delano Hotel. The MMW Hotel has served as the epicenter of parties during Miami Music Week. [34] The hotel has hosted official events at both the Delano Beach Club and the FDR Lounge & Nightclub during the past two years. [35] Artists like The Magician, Robin Schulz, Klingande, Carl Cox, Dirty South, Oliver Heldens, Disclosure, Claude Vonstroke, and Guy Gerber have hosted events at the Miami Music Week Hotel during the past two editions of Miami Music Week. Miami Music Week Cancellation - 2020 - COVID-19

Miami-Dade County declared a state of emergency due to the COVID-19 outbreak. This forced the Ultra Music Festival to postpone and shortly after, the Winter Music Conference followed suit. [39]

Ultra Music Festival (UMF) is an annual outdoor electronic music festival that takes place during March in Miami, Florida, United States. The festival was founded in 1999 by Russell Faibisch and Alex Omes.

Electronic dance music (EDM) is a broad range of percussive electronic music genres originally made for nightclubs, raves, and festivals. It is generally produced for playback by DJs who create seamless selections of tracks, called a DJ mix, by segueing from one recording to another. EDM producers also perform their music live in a concert or festival setting in what is sometimes called a live PA. Since its inception EDM has expanded to include a wide range of subgenres.

The Winter Music Conference (WMC) is a week-long electronic music conference, held every March in Miami Beach, Florida, United States since 1985. It is also known as the premiere platform for electronic dance music. The conference brings together professionals such as artists, DJs, record label representatives (A&R), producers, promoters, radio and the media for seminars and panel discussions. Thousands of attendees attend the WMC each year from around the world.

The Surfcomber Hotel is a boutique hotel on Collins Avenue in the historic Art Deco district of South Beach in Miami Beach, Florida. The hotel was built in 1948 and was acquired by the Kimpton hotel chain in April 2011. The Surfcomber is known for pool parties, and it served as the headquarters for MTV during the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards and for Bud Light during Super Bowl XLIV in 2010. The hotel is located at 1717 Collins Avenue, on the shore of Miami's South Beach.

Ultra Europe is a multi-venue outdoor electronic music festival that is a part of Ultra Music Festival's worldwide expansion, which has now spread to twenty countries. Ultra Europe made its debut as a two-day festival during 12–13 July 2013, and took place in Split, Croatia, with an additional Ultra Beach party in Hvar Island, Croatia on 14 July 2013. In 2015, the festival became a part of Destination Ultra which now lasts seven days in the heart of Dalmatia and includes an opening party, the three-day festival, yacht regatta, Ultra Beach, and a closing party.

Kshmr performed live at many music festivals like Coachella, Tomorrowland, EDC, Ultra and Sunburn.

Russell Faibisch is an American music festival producer and concert promoter. He is the co-founder of the Ultra Music Festival, an outdoor electronic music festival in Miami, and creator of the Ultra Worldwide brand. He is CEO, President, and Executive producer of the Ultra organization, and is also the chairman of the board, upon which and Adam Russakoff serve. Currently, Faibisch presides over an international chain of branded music festivals, concerts, and events, which include editions spanning across Europe, Australia, Asia, Africa, South, and North America, plus globally syndicated radio broadcasts, an online YouTube channel, music films, and premieres. In April 2016, Ultra Music Festival won the DJ Mag award for “World’s Number 1 Festival,” which was voted on by over 500,000 fans worldwide. In 2008, Ultra was also given the DJ Award for “International Dance Music Festival"." In 2014, Faibisch was ranked #6 on Rolling Stone’s “Most Important People in EDM List." Later that year, Billboard named Faibisch and business partner Adam Russakoff on the “EDM Power Players - Executives List. In 2016 and 2017, both Faibisch and Russakoff were again named on Billboard’s annual “Power List of DJs and Executives." In 2017, Magnetic Magazine named Faibisch the "Industry Person of the Year."

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ultra Singapore</span>

Ultra Singapore started with a Road to Ultra event which took place in September 2015, and in 2016 returned as a two-day festival, which took place at Ultra Park, a field across Marina Bay Sands during 10–11 September 2016.

The Electronic Dance Music Awards is an annual music award show focusing on electronic dance music that is hosted every year by Sean "Hollywood" Hamilton. The awards are given out across a variety of categories including Song of the Year in Dance, Tech, House and Bass genres, Best Male and Female Artist, Best Collaboration, Remix of the Year, Best New Artist, Club DJ Of the Year, and Vocalist of the Year, among many others.
